Finally got a hammer down there to bang on it. That did the trick. Fired
right up. Of course the claw on the hammer pulled the transmission and
vacuum shutoff lines off the injection pump, so after I drove the front end
up on the leaning towers of lumber pyramid scheme in preparation for
starter
At the time I averaged 3-4.

You don’t say what engine is in the car, but the 2.5 liter engines are known
for head gasket leaks that only manifest themselves at highway speeds.
After a highway run and a low reservoir I would be sniffing the exhaust for
coolant.

I’ve been sorting this 2004 Outback and I’ve been struggling a little with the
cooling system. When I bought it from a 23 year old dude called Warren, the
coolant was barely in the filler neck and the reservoir was empty. On the test
drive I heard the water sloshing sound behind the dash which

You still need to buy and install a reman or new starter. Strong
work on the rest.

Inspections are a total racket set up for repair shops.
I used to have to get inspections in Massachusetts and Texas, and they
would always find something wrong that they could then "repair." I
remember once taking the 79TD to get its inspection, and the guy failed
it for insufficient brake
Cranked up the SDL after a year hiatus. Started right up, but battery
light stays on, even with switch off (engine stopped) and key out. I
think that is indicating a bad diode in the alt. Time for a new alternator

Yes the older Saturns were remarkably good cars. They feel cheap as hell but
they just keep ticking. Kari’s has about 155K and she’s changed the oil
religiously every 3K miles since new. She wants to get a few years old BMW X3
and will probably just keep the Saturn which will then do winter
