That would be interesting to do a survey of what mechanics actually drive.

When I worked at the Oldsmobile/Honda Dealership almost all of the Honda
Mechanics drove Hondas. The Oldsmobile/GM mechanics were pretty well divided
between young and old. The older mechanics all drove Oldsmobiles. Most of the
younger ones drove trucks -- GM trucks. There was one exception. He was the
best of the heavy duty mechanics (he did transmission rebuilds, and major
engine work). He drove a Chrysler Town and Country Minivan. The dealership
had been a GMC dealer previously, so maybe that explains all the GMC trucks.
OR, it could be because the dealership was in the Midwest and most of the guys
were outdoorsy hunters. One of the older mechanics was an odd fellow. He had
3 1980's Oldsmobiles with the 5.7L Diesel. He loved them. The parts manager
drove a Ford Truck.

There were three service managers and two drove GMC trucks and one drove an
Oldsmobile (me). The service director (in charge of both shops) drove a GMC
truck with an Oldsmobile engine in it. The dealer drove whatever the heck he
wanted but usually it was an older Cadillac or Jaquar. He had 35-40 collector
cars he kept stored at the dealership that he drove on the weekends.

hence the new cars to buy me time before I have to work on them.

Yes, I guess that's the way to do it.

But, as I mentioned in my reply to Max, I need to take some stuff to

You remove the top bolt and lift the panel straight up. There are no additional
screws on the arm rest.

That sounds like what Kaleb told me but I forgot. But I need to drive
into Albuquerque to take some stuff to Shirley who is still at the
Skilled Nursing Facility.

Step 1: Caig deoxit on the connector at the sensor where you've been
intermittently fixing it by wiggling it.

Step 2: trace the fault, if deoxit doesn't do it.

No, this engine has an oil filter cannister like an OM617. It's at the
rear of the engine and has a lid with a central rod which lifts off.

I have moved the connector for the oil pressure sensor at the base of the
filter and wiggled the harness which, I think, contains the wire from the
sensor to the gauge. That seems to help a little, with the gauge
sometimes bouncing from zero to pegged.

So, I think, something is wrong with the wire between the sensor and the
gauge. How that went wrong and how I might fix it are then the questions.

Like Mitch said, that sounds like the wire between the sender and the gauge is
disconnected, or maybe the sender died?

Next step is remove the seat control switch (two Philips head screws).

After that, the rod that attaches to the door handle pull needs to be lifted up
and out of its hole in the door handle.

The door handle and the plastic surround behind it can be pushed forward and
removed.

NOW you should be able to lift the door panel up and remove.

I looked and didn't see anything -- the door speaker housing is
immediately below the armrest.

BUT I now have a more pressing problem:

I just changed the oil and filter, as well as disconnecting the battery
to clean the terminals.

When I went to start the engine, I noticed the oil pressure gauge pegged
before I had even cranked the engine.
