Well, I didn't have time this morning to test anything more. Had to catch
a plane, SWMBO went on with the car. She got there with no problem. She
travelled roughly the same distance with the car in less time. Roughly 650
 miles.

I spent a (not so) lovely day in ORD waiting for the second flight. Gate
changes, plane changes. Had one gate/plane ready, then for some
inexplicable reason, they sent that hardware and crew to ottawa, ca. THen a
 storm was closing in.

So, for less than 1000 miles, I still contend that a MB Diesel is faster
than flying. (unless you get a direct flight.)

Like when I was commuting, it took me 5 hours to get end to end, for a 30
 min flight.

You can put a jumper across the two wires going to one of the sensors on
the receiver-drier. I forget which one goes to the fan and which the
KLIMA, but you'll find out soon enough. It works because the electric fan
is triggered by a logical OR, either the coolant or the refrigerant gets
too hot (or both).

Loren,

I have attached selected pages from the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual
and the ComponentLocations file. The top center picture of the
ComponentLocations excerpt shows the location of R15, the Auxiliary Fan
Preresistor. Connecting +12 to one side of the resistor (the one with the
Black/White wire, if I read the schematic of the ETM correctly) will
cause both auxiliary fans to run continuously at full speed.

Well, shorting the two wires from the side of the rec/dryer with the ign on
did not make the fan run. I don't have a wire to try the resistor. Is it
the ceramic one in front of the ABS? The diagram is very hard to see.

Seems like the problem may be FUSE fan or relay. I will check the fusebox
in the morning. I just thought of that option. I was figuring a temp
switch was bad, but maybe not.
