I hate my local dealerships. You are very lucky to have a dealership that works
with you and is knowledgeable. That's why I use the Classic Center. No
nonsense, fair pricing, fast shipping. Tom Hanson is truly a gem of a person.
He is also a true enthusiast, goes to MB events, and concours. I
somewhere.

Yeah, I've never been crazy about this design - there are so many much
easier methods to adjust alts, Compressors, etc. Speaking of
compressors - I am considering removing this York - the AC has never
worked properly and removing it will provide more room to work in the
engine bay.

Be glad it's not one of the bolts with the rod welded to the side of the bolt
head that threads on to the bushing to tighten and loosen. When I was looking
up the toothed bolt I saw one of these and the bolt was $60.

I always released the upper and lower bolt but a PO did some damage
that's hard to fix without replacing.
Thx for the comments --

I've made those, and they don't cost me $60. ('course, they were
Take it out, weld it up, cut new teeth into it. I'd always planned to do that

Good to know. I wasn’t sure - I’ve only seen things that were NLA they come up

I’ve heard that Tom is really good, and that they do a good job of customer
service.
I’m sorry that other dealers don’t have the same attitude about customers like
ourselves that mine does. My parts guy is wonderful, and goes to great lengths
to help out and get me whatever I need.

It makes up for paying for shipping usually, and the service is great. Tom
is a genuinely great guy and does so much to keep these cars affordable and
on the road.

There's a reason they abandoned that design.
The bolt and the rack are vulnerable because many people don't understand that
you start by LOOSENING EVERYTHING before trying to adjust. That includes the
clamping bolt and the lower pivot bolt. Once the desired tension is achieved,
then tighten
