Re: [MBZ] Factory Phone Retrofit
That’s why I chuckle when people talk about the “heat and humidity” here in Florida. Where I grew up in the Midwest it was not uncommon to have it be 90F and 80%-100% humidity. Goshawful weather to work outside in, and far worse than it is here. The only difference is that we just have the heat for a longer time than they do. THat's nice weather for the south in summer. humidity here is generally in the 80 to 99% range in summer. with temps in the high 80s and 90s and some time over 100. 60% is exceedingly low for summer. That is why I laughed at the Varithane tech rep a few years ago. He told me not to put it on under 70º OR over 20% RH. I told him they obviously would not sell varithane in most of the continent then. The documentation for my S430, including Owner's manual, COMAND manual, and Voice Control totals over 1,000 pages of text and diagrams. The COMAND manual is over 400 pages alone. Thank goodness I like documentation. Made for some good reading. How the typical consumer operated this stuff I'll never understand. I have to believe that about 85% of the features are never used. Taking a break from swapping spark plugs. Ugh. 75% humidity and high 80s. It's already rained twice this morning. How I wish for an air conditioned garage. When a 72 year old friend of mine was buying a new car and wanted to bluetooth it to a phone, I got him a BT compatible phone and he made the Nissan dealer set it all up as part of the purchase deal. He loves it. He tells the car's communications center to call somebody, and it mutes the radio and puts the call on the radio speakers. I believe it also displays the number called on the navigation screen. Voice control, bluetooth integration with my iPhone, etc. Took me all of maybe 30 minutes to do. The rest of the time was spent playing with the voice control and phone. Sweet. Tomorrow morning while the engine is stone cold I’ll be replacing the spark plugs. Snagged a $20 HF 3/8” air ratchet to spin them out with, using a 25% off coupon to make the final price a little over $16. Can’t argue with that. Time to hit the shower and then study the telematics manual to learn more about the phone stuff.
