My folks have been using this on special occasions for the past 30 years. Since it gets used so infrequently, we at times forget to shut the heat off and have watched the thing perk away for a half hour waiting for the coffee to flush back down. I do press at home, for the quick and dirty pot of joe. It tastes fine, toss boiling water over grounds and let it soak, then plunge. The coffee then rests on the grounds until you drain it. I guess I should see if I can find all the parts to the automatic vacuum maker I got at a yard sale about 30 years ago, probably made in the early 50's. Has a thermostat in the bottom pot that turns the heat off after the water is forced into the top. My mom used one for decades, all stainless. I currently use a Bunn, better than one of the Mr. Coffee things, but not as good as a vacuum pot.
