I hear that when Pirellis go flat they go WOPWOPWOP

I thought the tires on the girl's car were not that old, they had a lot 
of good tread.  There was a receipt in the package with the car, I 
thought they might have been fairly new but she says the only receipt 
was from 2006 and the tires looked like they were dry rotting, so maybe 
they were old and things were letting go. Costco had told her they could 
get her in 2 days later so she went to some local tar shop and got some 
Goodyears or something.  She's happy, they were a bit cheaper than the 
Costco Bridgestones on sale, so I guess all is good.

Thumbs down on Pirelli.

Generals are horrible on snow and ice, but did pretty well on dry 
pavement.  I ran a lot of them on the the high mile SDL when I got

warrant their crappy name brand tires.

on the Burgundy SDL, I had all 4PIRELLI  tires slip belts badly on one 
70 mile trip to an MBCA meeting.   The thing shook like a dog trying to 
kill a rat.  at 25 MPH or less, it wobbled at a shriner's clown car.  
over 25 it shook terribly.  It was a LONG SLOW trip home...

Thumbs down on Pirelli.

I HATE wobble from slipped belts.  I will say avoid Pirelli also.  I do 
not have any slipped belts but the traction in the rain is like driving

they have no clue how to use the wrench.  I watched one tire changer 
tighten the nuts until the wrench clicked then he gave it another 1/2 
turn!  I had to take it back and get them to loosen the nuts so I had 
a chance to remove them if ever needed.

Bubbles happen.  there does not have to be damage.  The last conti I 
bought, a "made in USA," general tire one) got a bubble on the sidewall 
very quickly.   Wish I could buy German Continentals again/still.

The only time I've seen a bubble form has been following the sidewall 
being brushed against something like a curb, etc.  (I know, she rec'd 
the absolute best training from Daddy but accidents happen) Or maybe she 
loaned it to a friend?.  Then the sidewall gets weaker over time until 
the inner rubber (?) puts more and more pressure against the weakness 
and gradually pushes through the fracture until a bubble forms which 
gets larger and larger over time.   After raising 3 kids (who also rec'd 
Daddy's expert training) doing absolutely every thing possible to 
various cars over the last 40 years or so, this is how I would expect to 
see a bubble form.   IMO, the front tires are the most likely to suffer 
sidewall damage like you described
