So what is the default? It is 022 on all my machines and I have never screwed with it and as a result pkg_add works just fine. I set mine to 077 in .profile. Untidy things like that make me wary of code from the same source... Well, if you think having a paranoid root umask is a bad thing

Thank you for that. I never noticed. I haven't tried it yet but I'm sure that's it. Funny, I've installed OpenBSD countless number of times on x86 machines and never seen it use the ramdisk kernel by default. I'm new to OpenBSD on Sparc64 but there are obviously differences to watch out for.
