Saul - Simple advice.
Buy as early as you can into the campaign.
Even so-called trusted dealers buy from secondary sellers
who top up stock from those who sell (knowingly or unknowingly) fakes and repos
from wholesalers who sell both real and repro posters.
And this is from me, a dealer who ONLY
Hi Saul,
I buy most mine from '27x40-ds-movieposters' on ebay. The guy's name is Jason
and lives somewhere in Mississippi. I've been very happy with his stuff and his
packing/shipping is top notch. The only thing I've found negative is he is very
unsocial with his emails.
I bought a Pirates
I *USED* to be a really regular buyer on eBay (for a while, my buying level
was so high I needed a full-time employee to take care of paying, unpacking,
leaving feedback, etc). Not just movie paper, but also vintage glass frames,
paperback books, 1939 World's fair items, #1 magazines, and a few

I've been feeling the same way for a long time. I used to think eBay was the
greatest thing going but then...
1) Less items being offered or interested in
2) Overpriced shipping and Bad packaging
3) Unsold items being relisted over and OVER again to the point where I wonder

Hey Glenn--
This is too true.nbsp; I quit selling for the most part myselfnbsp; since
the $10 item was no longer worth the trouble.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; Before the
fees got out of hand I didn't think selling an item for $10 was too bad.nbsp;
But now, no way, especially with eBay getting a second cut

I didn't think I was alone and this confirms it.
I would also like to add the cost of sending a priority package through the
USPS has hindered sales in my opinion.

I couldn't tell you exactly how many hours or dollars I spent on eBay in the
past but it was substantial. The hours searching and determining if the item I
saw was really the item I wanted was becoming a burden, and then I noticed the
money was really adding up.
I haven't quite cold turkey,
Increasingly less and for quite some time.
Buying, extremely rarely. Browsing, almost never.
As a seller we do most of our business through our website and private

I hate to say that in 1999-2002 I probably spent 20 hours a week
buying on fleaBay but maybe only 5-10 selling (selling was easier
than waking up in the morning back then)
slowly until 2005 I started buying less (companies like Rotman
stopped selling posters) and in Jan 2005 I stopped selling

how many times do you need to use the term fleabay in an email? we

I guess with all these people never looking at eBay there will finally be
some bargains on there very soon, as it seems the items I put on my watch
list invariably get a lot of bids and sell for high prices.

trend... I wonder why???

The picture you paint has some interesting details but it is not as dark as
you paint it. Life changes and you have to go with it. Before I get into
eBay, let's talk posters in general. When I began poster collecting you were

Claude's response made me wonder about something else.
How many of us have spouses/partners who are equally interested in
our poster collecting interests? How many just tolerate it? How many have no
idea how
much gets spent on it, and how many collectors hide what they spend on it?

I've got 11 1/2 years on ebay and have gone through various stages. I started
strictly as a buyer but after buying several collections I moved into the
seller category. I am home based with no concrete store so eBay was my only
way of sales and times were great at points. I had weekends

I started collecting James Bond and then Charlie Chan. My wife is the one
who got me into horror/sci-fi and she never lets me forget it. That part of
my collection has gone up much more than anything that I own. she also knows
what I spend because she pays the bills. A good
I'll try and be brief:
I still think ebay is great. Our sales results have never been stronger,
both in our auctions and in our fixed price ebay store.
Yes, I don't like the new fees and the other new changes etc. etc. , just
like everyone else. But I really don't think they are
Jeff Potokar kind of asked the difference of the two when describing what you
call a poster that still has the printers color chart on the side of the

seriously though.the ones I've received lately have actually come from
the collections of former printers from Gore Graphics and Continental Litho..
They also refer to them as Proofs.

I think you read more into my post than I intended. eBay *WAS* wonderful to
most of us, and of course, it was especially so to me, both as a buyer and a
seller. But my point was that the eBay of *NOW* is a far cry from the eBay
in terms of selection.
You certainly are a very atypical

With just a day to go, there are still around 225 window cards and French

These DON'T have an added $9 buyers premium! What you bid is what you pay,
and the U.S. shipping charge is $10 so matter how many you buy, and once you

In the printing department, printers pull them from the machinesnbsp;for

Dear Mopoers,
I have a Mexican poster for White Dog that is roughly 16.75 inches
wide by 23 inches tall. From the info I've found on the internet,
this does not seem to fit the normal sizes for Mexican posters. Is
anyone familiar with this size poster? Is it a video poster?
Oh, you're the guy from Australia! Thanks for clarifying. I thought
we had a NEW Mopoer named Philip Charles Edwards, since that is how
your name recently started showing up. I was thinking you must be
some real distinguished gentleman. Not that you aren't...but I didn't
realize that you

This week I have been working directly off my mail server

Apologies for the confusion!

Thank God MovieArt does not depend on ebay for our living. We do
quite well with customers who want service, authenticity
and help. We don't expect this to be everyone, but we have some
great customer who appreciate what it is we offer.
I do think that at every turn ebay has made it harder
