Kudos To Al Schirmacher for his heads up on the Townsends Solitaire last week.
I checked it out 11/1 in the afternoon and was able to find 2 Townsends
Solitaires at the area indicated. I even heard them singing. Thanks Al for a

Also I went thru the wildlife drive at the refuge

I had 2 common redpolls in the yard today, extreme western Polk County (East
Grand Forks). Is this fairly early for redpolls? I think my first last year
were about Nov 20.

This afternoon's exercise walk put me in the expected avian company,
with a few specials added in: a brown creeper, working its

Going north out of Currie, in southwestern Minnesota, I spotted a Great Horned
Owl sitting on the shoulder of the road. Also spotted pairs of downy, hairy,
and redbellied woodpeckers at our cabin feeders. Su Hafner

the 31st, the birding was relatively quiet, just as it has generally

of Hwy. 53 in Melrude, MN between mile marker 44 and 45 or ~half mile south of
West Melrude Road.

Was standing outside my front door yesterday, talking to a friend on the phone,

of a dozen or so European House Sparrows that hog the tube feeder. Good
riddance!
This is at least my fourth such observation of an
