In Carver Park Reserve on Saturday, Judy Chucker and I watched a female
Kestrel face-off with two Pileated Woodpeckers, and win.
The Kestrel was perched on the telephone line when a pair of Pileateds

were 3 - 4 dozen horned grebes spread out on the surface of the lake.

Over the last several years I have planted a large native garden in my
yard. Birds and butterflies love it, but the time has come for me to start
thinning out some areas where some of the more aggressive plants are
spreading a bit too much. I
This morning I observed another White-faced Ibis out from the observation
platform at Old Cedar Ave Bridge in Bloomington. It was just standing on one
of the mud islands and when several Bald Eagles came overhead it flushed and
continued rising high to the south east and kept going.

My backyard bluebird nest has 3 eggs in it. I saw the female sitting on
them this morning.
We have been feeding the bluebirds for three weeks and last week a female
started and finished her nest. This morning upon checking the nest cam

At 6:15 pm today, on the west end of Lake Byllesby: Large flocks of Shoveler,
A. Coot, Green-winged Teal, Blue-winged Teal. Also, Gadwall, 2 Pied-billed
Grebes, 31 White Pelicans, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, 14 Pectoral Sandpiper.
One Hudsonian Godwit and one Long-billed Dowatcher were also feeding
