There was a nice collection of birds seen on Saturday by our bird tour group,
and a few more on Sunday. A common gallinule was seen and heard calling early
on Sunday morning from the traditional spot on Big Bluestem Pool. A Henslow's
sparrow was near the beginning of the Prairie Trail on the
Prothonotary Warblers near where the Brown Pelican had been seen at
Myre-Big Island State Park.
A Yellow-throated Warbler had been reported in the park as well, but I
was unable to find it. I did see Black Terns and Franklin's Gulls.
A pair of White-faced Ibises were about 1/4 mile east

Field Trip Report
Our group enjoyed a nice walk at Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve this morning. We
hike some of the trails from the park entrance on Murphy Lake Road and from the
parking lot on Sunset Lake Blvd.
Brad Abendroth, the original locator of the Brown Pelican on Saturday could not
re-find the bird today (Monday).

I spent Saturday birding in Winona, Wabasha, and Dakota counties. The best
birds of the day included a Black-billed Cuckoo (south of Lake City) and
several calling Whip-poor-wills near Frontenac. I had a Whip-poor-will in
a valley west of Lake City that I often find them during the summer. The
