A few winters ago they were talking about adding molasses to the salt in
Minneapolis to help its adhesion. I wonder if they actually went forward
with that plan.

On Monday, December 16, I noted a flock of a dozen crows at an
intersection near Kings Highway and 36th street, Minneapolis.
The crows were actively picking up something from the pavement. I
thought at first they were working on a piece of road kill.
They appeared to be picking up and eating
Took my client to Isabella area and with the new snow on the ground and
much of the Stoney River Road compacted with snow grit was hard to locate
so no Spruce Grouse were to be found today.
Stoney River Road is in excellent shape for driving as is the Whyte Rd in
Lake County.
We did see two Great
At noon today in General Mills Research Nature Area, Golden Valley. Perched at
the top of a tall tree at the western edge of the pond.
Also a Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk, and Redbellied Woodpecker.

A Sandhill Crane was found dead on Hannon Lake in St. Louis Park. While it
was discovered on December 12, recent snow fall and tracks indicate that
the bird died on December 11. It was turned into Westwood Hills Nature
Center.
Other area birds include usual winter suspects (i.e. American Black Duc
