LOL Wayne. Wait here Paul while I go get a hammer.
Paul I'm wouldn't reshape the helmet if it was me. Most of the
protection comes from that layer of Styrofoam that you'd be reshaping
and you really don't know how thick it is or how thick it would be
when you're done. The helmet engineers
My dad has relined helmets. Foam and the felt stuff and everything. I'm with
Matt tho, I wouldn't do it. That whole safety thing. I also feel your pain,
I think the Nolans and the Scorpions are really cool helmets but my head
just plain doesn't fit them. I also can wear the cheaper helmets like
Last year I did a whole bunch of reading about helmets before settling
on the Shark I have now. Different manufacturers seem to make the
majority of their helmets for one shape of head.

I bought an HJC SyMax2. Fits nicely, a touch big; it wobbles a bit
when I'm in the top end, but I just tighten the chin strap a bit more
and tilt my head forward and it stops. Bit pricey (for me!) @ $175,
but it's nice. Modular flip up, sun visor, great airflow; my head's
not hot as long as I'm
I have the same HJC. I've been using it for more than a year. Pretty
good overall. I am not that sure about the airflow though. It started
to get noisier with the time, most likely due to the inner padding
wearing out. Anyway, I am thinking in getting a better quality, full
face helmet for long
I've spent several hours on webbikeworld. I wish they had a chart showing
similar fitting helmets. I could find the one my shoei falls in and then
assume my head would other helmets in the category. I too have the problem
where my head is long and narrow it seems. If I get one that fits front to
What's weird (to me at least) about the web bike world helmet shapes
categorization is that it's vertical - i.e. your head would look like
that viewed head on.
While I'm sure that does affect fit, I've found it's the horizontal
shape that matters most, like the pattern of the tape measure when
I had the same problem with my HJC. I took out a dremel tool and
shaved about 1/4 an inch in the area that was resting on the top of my
forehead. Have ridden it that way for about 1.5 years with total
comfort. Of course I didn't need the protection because I've kept my
head off the ground.

*Sean, I've actually heard the 2 year time frame before. I guess I'm stuck
and will need to just sell the helmet for whatever I can get. I think I wore
it like two times. It's a BRAND NEW Nolan N-102 and it's color-matched for
my motorcycle. (All my helmets are wineberry colored.)*

I've never heard about the 2 year thing either. Both the SCCA and BMW club
require at least a Snell rated motorcycle helmet to participate in driving
events, and they require that the Snell rating be no more then that last two
editions (10 years, I believe).
