In my experience most Japanese engines (cars included) for some reason
don't run well on anything but NGK plugs. That's been true of any
Honda I've ever driven\rode. Oil filters, I prefer Purolator for
cars, and for the Nighthawk I just get what's available since there
isn't much choice in those
Just ordered a Uni air filter on the advice of someone here. It's
cleanable and reusable like the K N, but half the price and doesn't
suck as high a volume of air, supposedly.
Never used one before, so we'll see.

I put KNs in both of my bikes. The 650 ran fine with it, I can't really
compare it to stock though as the DSPO didn't have any filter in it at all.
The 700 I noticed a significant difference between stock, and KN. The KN
had a noticeable improvement over the stock filter at 6K+ on the tach. Below
UNI air filter - no problems so far
Mobil-1 M1-104 oil filter - same as the honda prelude :-) (w/ 5w-40
rotella t6 shh!!!)
NGK Iridium plugs
NGK spark plug caps (new)
KL rebuild kits - pretty much the only choice

Dave, can you find that oil filter in a local autoparts, or do you order
online? The last one I got was a KN, bought it online, but they don't have
those at any of my local autoparts.

Local autoparts - used to be able to get them at walmart, now they're
only selling Fram and Supertech (at least near me). NAPA, autozone,
etc. all carry the mobil-1 filters. Just like honda to use the same
filter type across motorcycles/cars...
Just do a couple cross-references from your honda
The 90s NH takes a Purolator Pure One PL14612, found at most auto
parts stores. This is Purolator's premium line filter and it does a
fine job. Costs about $6, half the price of the Honda brand filters
at the dealer.
