Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] tank swap resources?
I ended up using vinegar and then RedKoting the tank. A ton of work but the tank is useable again. Bike is running. Vinegar by the gallon is pretty cheap and not as quick acting (a little more forgiving) than muratic acid, I think. It worked great but I don't ever want to have to do it again. Haha. I have used Muratic acid on a couple of tanks. You have to be quick to neutralize the acid that you haven't washed out of the tank. I've got better results, at least safer results with a pressure washer. It takes patience and a little enginuity. Then I lined the tanks. I'm riding a 700S with one of those tanks on it. You can also get pinholes that way. I've got a tank in the garage (different bike) that looks great but won't hold gas. 3 used tanks for 700s on ebay From: nighthawk_lovers@googlegroups.com [mailto:nighthawk_lovers@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kyle Munz Sent: Tuesday, May 30, 2017 10:48 AM To: nighthawk_lovers@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] tank swap resources? Re: [Nighthawk Lovers] tank swap resources?
True. If you had asked this question a couple of months ago when I had both my 650 and 700 apart I could have tried to see if it would fit. I've got the 650 up for sale and ppl looking at it right now so I can't really take it apart. The petcock is in a different location but otherwise they're similar, I'm not sure about the length and tunnel width though, but with enough hammering... maybe? I don't know if those are any easier to find than 700 tanks though. -Kyle On Tue, May 30, 2017 at 4:08 PM, ChrisVwrote: > I'm not worried about aesthetics. I'm not worried about aesthetics. I'm looking for a tank that I can bolt on so the bike will run. It's going to take a while to restore the factory tank and, since they are almost impossible to find, I need to do this one slowly and right. Having a spare in the meantime would be nice. The choice between a bike that looks right sitting in the garage and one that's on the road is an easy one.
