I don't think so, it works fine in Unicode. You may have chosen not to install
plugins when you installed.

To add to the comments on where to find answers before posting: there is also
a wiki, which you can access from N++ using ? -> FAQ/Wiki.

Actually there is another wiki, supplied by SF, but this is work in progress
at the moment.

Check whether you have any Global Style -> Global Override settings set, and

Indeed a great idea. I've been chatting with almostautomated for a while today
and learned at least two useful things in the process, for example about the
IdeaTorrent, the new place for feature requests:

I am using Notepad++ 5.3.1 UNICODE

When I copy some UTF-8 to the clipboard, then change the encoding from ANSI
to UTF-8 in some other document and paste it, all I get is question marks.

I'm quite sure this didn't happen in earlier versions, but I can't remember
which.

The following screen shots show the problem:

http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/859/new2.png
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/1420/new4step1.png
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/7698/new4step2.png

Can someone advice me whether I should file this as a bug?

There seems to be a limitation in notepad++ causing it to allow at
most two instances to be started at the same time. Second one may be
started either by running notepad++ using the -multiInst command-line
option or by using the new drag-and-drop-outside-the-editor feature.

However, when you already have two instances open, opening a third
one will fail. As an unfortunate consequence, if you attempted to open
the third instance by using the new drag-and-drop-outside-the-editor
feature - the file you dragged will be closed and not open anywhere
else (real annoying when you're dealing with a temporary file using some
illegible file name opened from an external application :-)).

   So related requests would be:

 * I would be nice if it we could have more than two notepad++
instances started at the same time.
 * It would be nice if the original file did not get closed in case
opening it in a different view failed after the drag-and-drop feature.
 * It would be nice if the drag-and-drop feature also allowed moving
a file between multiple views within the same notepad++ instance.

   Hope this helps.

   Best regards,
 Jurko Gospodneti?

Ok, scratch what I said about being able to open at most two
notepad++ instances. It seems something went wrong locally with my
system but a clean reboot seems to have cleaned that up. I can now start

Hi,

Yes, I second you. I still use Ansi version of Npp++ because there isn't unicode
SimpleScript plugin. I think this is a great plugin, but I usually use it only
to character-coding (ex ? -> \\u00C1, ...).

This is nice but there are a few things missing from this feature:

   --
   Important:
   --

 * Backspace & delete keys should work correctly in this new column mode.
They should maintain the current column selection and delete the next or
previous
character respectively. They should also not be able to delete end-of-line
markers.

 * When you start block selection you should start ignoring end-of-line
markers, i.e. in the following text:

-
   I'm a little tea
   pot...
   short and stout
   here is my
   handle
   here is my
   snout...
-

It should should be possible to make the following selection (use fixed-width
font when viewing this):

-
   I'm a little tea
   pot...
   short an[**]
   here is [**]
   handle [**]
   here is [**]
   snout...
-

And also, when you make a selection like this ('|' characters are for
illustration
only) (use fixed-width font when viewing this):

-
   I'm a little tea
   pot...
   short an|d stout
   here is |my
   handle |
   here is |my
   snout...
-

Typing in new characters should have the following effect (use fixed-width
font when viewing this):

-
   I'm a little tea
   pot...
   short an[***]d stout
   here is [***]my
   handle [***]
   here is [***]my
   snout...
-

Instead of the current (not how the text in the shorter line gets messed
up) (use fixed-width font when viewing this):

-
   I'm a little tea
   pot...
   short an[***]d stout
   here is [***]my
   handle[***]
   here is [***]my
   snout...
-

   -
   Nice-to-have:
   -

 * When you select a column of width 0, it would be nice to see a tiny
selection
marker between the related character columns.

 * The old feature allowing you to fill the whole block with a single

Hello Jurko,

I noticed your post in the mailing-list and wanted to let you know that it is
doubtful Don would ever see them; the mailing list is pretty much a one way
comm. From the forums, to the mailing list; more of an announcement list than
anything else. To ensure that your posts are seen please post them to the
forums.

Also, there is now a new ideaTorrent setup for the Notepad++ project where
users can post their ideas, and others can vote for them. The goal is to have
an area where, instead of multiple threads with ideas thrown in here and there,
a place will exist that the dev team, plugin writers, new developers, and users
can see what is wanted by the most people.

In regards to the chrome style tabs:

* It would be nice if the original file did not get closed in case opening it
in a different view failed after the drag-and-drop feature.
- it won't if you have created a new buffer for it prior to dragging it out of
the window. Do this by using 'clone to new view'.

* It would be nice if the drag-and-drop feature also allowed moving a file
between multiple views within the same notepad++ instance.
- it does, you just have to have two views opened first, which makes sense.

Hi all,

FileSwitcher 0.6 is now available. This plugin lets you switch files without
leaving the keyboard, by typing part of the filename, path or even the
tab position.

Lots of improvements in this release, almost all suggestions from people who
looked at the last release, so thank you all for those.
- Now uses a list view instead of a list box, so you can sort by the column
you want
- Shows file status
- Supports Ctrl-Tab emulation, but will allow typing whilst ctrl-tabbing (thanks
to almostautomated for his discussion on this, I hope this solution meets with
his expectation!)
- Supports multiple views (options to show files from just the current view,
or both views)
- Automatic resizing of columns (optional)
- Allows selection of default sort orders, or remembering your previous
- Added options button to the switcher dialog
- Options for what to include in search (filename, path, tab order)

Unicode is

ANSI is

Source is

What's the process if I wanted to get this included in the "notepad++ plugins"
project - do a certain number of people need to approve it?

Any comments always welcome.

Many thanks,

Dave.

Hi Thell,

Could you apply the following patch :
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2781562&group_id=95717&atid=612
384
then send it to Han Prower to check if this issue is fixed?

If so, we will include this patch in the next release.

Thank you in advance
Don
