[NTG-context] texexec slow
Hi, I am new on this list. I use pftex and would use ConTeXt installed with texlive/2007. 'ruby' and 'pdftex' work fine, but 'texexec' (texexec.rb $@) is very slow. With luatex memory might also be an issue, but that's probably not the case with pdftex. I tested 'texexec' on another computer (Kubuntu 7.10, TL2007, ruby 1.8.6) and it works, but I need it on [Debian 5.0, Gnome, ruby 1.8.7] where it fails. What's the time needed to run pdflatex on similar document size? I dont know; 'first-setup.sh' erased the path to the format files ;-) but 'pdflatex' was very clever. (I must reinstall 'texlive'.) Nor does the 'documentation' at http://getfo.org/context_xml/page3.html , which the first page recommends. More, the two pages seem pretty contradictory. Consider my situation: I'm trying to set up an A4 page with the following margins (I use the term margin to mean the space from the edge of the physical paper to the edge of the body text area): top: 2.97cm bottom: 2.97cm left: 2.1cm right: 2.1cm For the moment, I don't care at all about header and footer space, nor notes in the margins; I'm just trying to get the above margins. However, with all conceivable combinations of commands at both of those pages, I've been unable to set anything like this up. Based on the getfo.org page, I should be able to set up these left and right margins with: \setuplayout [backspace=2.1cm, cutspace=2.1cm, width=middle, topspace=2.97cm, bottomspace=2.97cm, height=middle] \showframe \starttext \input tufte \showlayout \stoptext - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___ -- René Bastian www.pythoneon.org www.musiques-rb.org ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

I mean like a real manual. I read the book about Hasselt---a few examples without explanations. I've looked at most of the fifty or so documents over which this virtual manual is supposed to be spread. They are about as informative. Most of these documents seem to be 5--12 years old. The wiki is even more patchy. The idea that a computer manual is something that exists implicitly in the discussions of a mailing list is a new idea to me. You can't be serious about mk.pdf being a manual. Even it admits, This document is not so much a users manual as a history of the development. Little after that point is intelligible. Compared with the clear, abundant documentation of the LaTeX world, ... LoL I have a good meter of books about Latex. But Latex is 'congenitally' unable to do what I want to obtain. Within 6 months, with the Seroul book the Context Manual the help of this list, I made more and better than in 10 years of Latex. With Latex you must accept to do what Latex wants to be done. With Context (and even with the older Tex), you are free (not free in an denglish sense ('gratuit', 'kostenfrei'), but 'libre' or 'frei'). Context seems like a secret that a small club is trying to keep. It's not even clear from the manuals that development is ongoing, much less that there is some advantage in using it. So, will there ever be a manual to MK IV? In how many years? I think that the usersd need that the '[...,...,...]' should be replaced or referenced by lists of parameters and we need a wiki-glossary of the params. So we need a wiki to which users can access. I tried to access t the contextgarden, but my access was forbidden. So it is true that Context is much more better than the way its access is managed. -- René Bastian www.pythoneon.org www.musiques-rb.org http://www.soundsurvey.org.uk/ ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : http://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

Re: [NTG-context] Building a guitar chord using MP

For now, I only knew how to make a chord grid: \startreusableMPgraphic{chordgrid} drawoptions(withpen pencircle scaled 0.4pt withcolor black) ; draw hlingrid(0, 5, 1, 0.8cm, 1cm) ; draw vlingrid(0, 4, 1, 1cm, 0.8cm) ; \stopreusableMPgraphic \define[0]\ChGrid{\dontleavehmode\useMPgraphic{chordgrid}\hskip2mm} \starttext \ChGrid \stoptext I need to change it so that I could specify fret numbers, i.e. six numbers for each string, and draw a filled circles in these positions. I've started with a command like this \define[6]\Ch{\dontleavehmode\useMPgraphic{chordgrid}... I'm not sure what to do next... How to pass these parameters into MP, how to organize the loop... For a test, \Ch[1][3][1][2][1][1] should produce |-O-|---|---|---| |-O-|---|---|---| |---|-O-|---|---| |-O-|---|---|---| |---|---|-O-|---| |-O-|---|---|---| Please, help me with it.
