Seabirds and shorebirds made a big showing on LI this weekend. During a Saturday afternoon seawatch at Cupsogue, near Moriches Inlet, Patricia Lindsay and I were joined at times by Richard Kaskan, Mike Higgiston, and Eileen Schwinn. Highlights were our earliest ever Wilson's Storm-Petrels (11)

It looks like this hasn't been posted yet. Doug Futuyma and Andrew Baksh found a White-winged Dove this afternoon at the Jones Beach West end Coast Guard Station, at the eastern edge of the parking lot near a fire hydrant. From what I was told the bird later walked away into the bushes but was

Wasn't out this morning but managed an early evening seawatch (5:31-6:31 PM) from the beach in Amagansett (Suffolk Co.). Viewing was limited by a bank of offshore fog but with enough open water to observe a steady trickle of seabirds. The mix was similar to the birds seen from Fire Island this
