On December 17, Rockland County conducted its 71st Annual Christmas Bird
Count. Forty-two field counters (plus one fledgling counter, less than 2
years old) tallied 20,207 birds representing 87 species. The number of
species is among our highest counts, ranking in the 90th percentile

The Northern Nassau Christmas Count was held Saturday, December 16. The results
were a disappointing 94 species and equally disappointing 19,855 individuals.
There were highlights, however, including a count first 2 Tree Swallows, 3
Cackling Geese, 7 Bald Eagles, Virginia Rail, 20 Greater

The Queens County Christmas Bird County was held on Sunday. Forty-six
participants found 43,235 individuals of 123 species, one off our all time
high of 124, which has been done twice. (Our report to Audubon will have
124 species but we're not counting introduced bobwhites as a "good" bird.)

(3), Cooper's Hawk, American Kestrel, Common Raven (2), Hermit Thrush,

Goldfinch* (~12).

Couldn’t find it in yesterday’s CBC with Gabriel Willow but it re-emerged-
actively foraging in the open along the southeast edge allowing passersby on
40th Street to take photos inches away. At one point it appeared to have its
beak stuck for almost a minute until it pulled out a fat 8 inch

The Mountain Bluebird at Democrat Point continued to be very cooperative today,
through at least the middle of the day.
The bird very consistently favors perches atop a variety of different trees
along the southern edge of the second, westernmost, flat sand clearing to the
west of the Robert

Participants on this years Captree CBC (southwestern Suffolk County, LI)
enjoyed beautiful weather, with temperatures of 30-35 F, very light winds and
overcast skies—all contributing to ease of bird detection. Our total of 125
