RE: Derek Rogers report earlier this evening. The goose, among the CAGO flock,
had been foraging a fall-planted grass, appeared to be a type of sod or a rye
cover crop whichever is the farm owner's practice. This grass can be
identified. No leg bands. Flock left Lake same time yesterday

Happy to report, I observed the Virginias at 9:30am. I first found it at the
base of the south facing slope towards 76th Ave. in the area known as Nutmeg
Meadow. The bird worked it was up the slope parallel to the trail (trail starts
at metal posts), went into the kettle, but then went back
I searched for the birds late this afternoon in both pastures, Montauk Airport,
and Rita's Horse Farm. No luck.
If people are out here searching tomorrow, it may be worth searching all of the
fields between East Hampton and Mecox Bay south of Rte 27.

I observed a pair of Barrow's Goldeneye at the southern end of Lake Montauk.
They were with a flock of American Goldeneye. They are visible from the end of
South Lake Drive off of Rte 27. Additionally, I saw the immature Black-headed
Gull that has frequented Lake Montauk for the last few weeks

This looks like a Iceland Gull to me. Thayer's should be a darker

The bird has moved well east of its original location. It is now among a flock
of Horned Gs off of the beach access at the intersection of South Emerson
Avenue and South Essex Street in Montauk.

The lone individual of the disturbed pair is currently in the pond in Yaphank
sitting on ice. It's neck near head is fairly rusty/buffy as if steeped like
tea perhaps from tannic water.

An adult drake TUFTED DUCK is on Stump Pond at Blydenburgh County Park in
Smithtown. Associating with L. Scaup RN Ducks 300 yards north of the boat
rental docks.

scope along the exposed benthic shoreline for more shore birds and was shocked
to see a single Bobwhite foraging something and drinking from a freshwater
tributary! I have never seen this behavior and thought I would share it.

Thanks to Ardith Bondi for posting this for me. As a result a number
of birders come to see the bird. It was present all afternoon and is
extremely tame, coming to bread, within five feet of the observer.

Hey All,
What's the deal with this bird? I have only seen third hand reports. There
are as many reports on the New Jersey listserv as there are here (unless I
