A pair of eagles was recently seen on a nest in Patchogue village atop a
communications tower. Osprey had been harassing the eagles since their return
and today the osprey pair were tending to the nest. A similar series of events

Pepperidge Lake on the border of E Moriches and Eastport (E Moriches Blvd) held
a Eurasian wigeon which flew in and landed midway in the pond then headed north

I was surprised to see an Eastern Bluebird in Yaphank along Grucci lane today.
Several ravens also in the area. There is significant bluebird habitat in the
area but have not seen them on many previous visits.

mid day a bald eagle was moving lazily from west to east along S Country Rd.

including a drive to the top. Much to our surprise we observed at least 6

This afternoon there were 4 male green-winged teal in the north pond at swan
river preserve. A great blue heron was seen in the southern pond.

On my morning run I went down to pine neck dock at the mouth of swan river in
East Patchogue. The bay is still frozen over and the mouth of the river had one
small pocket of open water remaining. A number of mute swans were loafing on
the ice and a few dozen ducks were swimming in the opening

There was a large raft of ducks (mostly scaup and buffleheads) just east of
mascot dock in the village of Patchogue. The location is next to Lombardi’s on
the bay, just south of shore front dock. Birds often times feeding feet from
the boardwalk but also spooked easily. They were there at 10:30

A high noon walk down Cupsogue beach turned up a piping plover loosely
associating with a flock of Sanderlings. There was also a semi-palmated
plover with this group. Two loon flyovers between ocean and beach was the
only other thing of interest.
