In general all fixes should go to trunk first. So the code changes in 3.4.1 branch will not be merged to main trunk automaticly after 3.4.1 released? Not automatically: someone has to do it and if the bug is labelled RESOLVED - FIXED it's likely that someone will forget to do it. That's one of the reasons it's preferable to commit the patches to trunk first. Another reason is that using svn merge will keep track of the revisions that have been merged. Re: Propose for 3.4.1: Can't remove password from file (119366)
Hi, All: This issue was solved, now call for the reviewers. In general, this is a setting confusion issue. In current saving process, both SID_ENCRYPTIONDATA and SID_PASSWORD are working for setting password on a document. Refer to the SfxObjectShell::ExecFile_Impl() in file SRC/sfx2/source/doc/objserv.cxx:line 595-599 please. And, as what we imagine, after doing the file dialog executing with deselecting the check box of Save with password, the result parameter set, which is to customize saving process, wont record said 2 SID inside anymore, for indicating that the following saving process will not concern about the password stuff anymore. But when performing the exact preparation SaveAs process in SfxobjectShell::PreDoSaveAs_impl(), only the the default SID_PASSWORD was cleared, but SID_ENCRYPTIONDATA was not. The issue happens. For solving it, we just simply add the item SID_ENCRYPTIONDATA clearing in SfxobjectShell::PreDoSaveAs_impl(), similar as the SID_PASSWORD. 2012/6/19 Jürgen Schmidt jogischm...@googlemail.com On 6/18/12 1:16 AM, Rob Weir wrote: https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=119366 This is a regression introduced in OOo 3.4 beta but not detected in AOO 3.4 tested. Unless the build process starts completely clean (and it didn't as of the 3.4.0 builds), the build would reuse an older, cached, version of the extension even if a newer one was specified in extensions.lst; in other words, editing extensions.lst in order to specify to download version 1.1 of the Italian dictionary instead of version 1.0 would have unpredictable effects (one would get version 1.1 in a completely clean build, version 1.0 if he had already built OpenOffice before the change). The fix is obviously low-risk, so it probably makes sense to backport it to 3.4.1. See http://s.apache.org/xkuN for context. I can see a benefit for the source release but not very critical. But don't see the demand for our binary release because we can easy check it. If somebody volunteers to include, built and test it for 3.4.1 then I would support it. Any volunteer? Juergen

Hi, On 22.06.2012 18:18, Fan Zheng wrote: Hi, Oliver: In some degree, I changed my mind following your answer that, we should not change the definition of SvxLineSpacingItem. So based on the discussion we already have, we can do some summary. Now we know, Under the following situations: a. Value of above-paragraph-spacing greater than 0; b. The type of line-spacing is Exactly; c. The value of line-spacing is less than the font height; MS Word will consider the above-paragraph-spacing as the additional line-spacing for the first line. Also, MS Word doing funny stuff commonly because the in-consistent process mechanism, such as the background height and flying object positing stuff. In a further step, we considered that AOO has fidelity issues on representing such kind of MS Word document with the properties settings we talked about, and we want to fix it. So far so good. But what should be the range of the fix? In my opinion, we should consider following candidates: a. Preventing the text presentation clipping in first line in above condition, as ZJ already done perfectly; b. Consistency behavior of paint refresh and cursor selection; The hard point of this one is that, when refreshing a line portion painting (including the selection range stuff), the paint range is clipped already to fit the size of line portion. We may need some kind of breaking method on working with big line spacing. Such method may need to change the VisArea of a SwTxtFrm; c. Following the in-consistent process mechanism that MS Word has; I really do not want it, but without it, the fidelity issues still there. d. Making the documents loaded from ODF files also work like this; So for me, ZuoJun's work maybe acceptable, but it is only a very beginning of big works. I agree to ZhengFan's analysis. Now, we need to discuss how we address these issues. My view one this is the following (propsal for discussion): - Let us separate the stuff regarding the character painting and the object positioning stuff in two issue. 119476 for the character painting, new issue for the object positioning stuff. - Character painting stuff: -- I am in favor of a solution which does not change our intrinsic text formatting and line portion creation algorithm. Thus, to solve the repaint and selection problem we can store additional information - the additional space taken by the character painting - at the SwTxtFrm instance in order to access it during painting and selection actions. The additional space taken for the character painting is already part of the frame area (member SwTxtFrm::aFrm), but not part of the frame printing area (member SwTxtFrm::aPrt). What do other think about it? Best regards, Oliver.

It helps to track it. DONE. The code have checked in 3.4.1 and revision is 1353370. I see the issue appears RESOLVED - FIXED. Was the issue fixed in trunk? In general all fixes should go to trunk first. So the code changes in 3.4.1 branch will not be merged to main trunk automaticly after 3.4.1 released? Not automatically: someone has to do it and if the bug is labelled RESOLVED - FIXED it's likely that someone will forget to do it. That's one of the reasons it's preferable to commit the patches to trunk first. Another reason is that using svn merge will keep track of the revisions that have been merged. Thank your reminder and explanation. I checked the fix in trunk now, the rev is 1353389. thanks, I think the point Pedro was raising here is that we have to be careful and have to ensure that fixes are going in both code bases, the AOO34 branch as base for 3.4.1 and trunk for 3.5. And that we fix an issue in trunk and merge the fix with svn merge into the branch or vice versa. My initial idea was to fix all 3.4.1 issues on the branch and merge the whole branch in trunk afterwards. But even this approach doesn't work for everything. Think about changes to adapt the version number from 3.4 to 3.4.1 or 3.4 to 3.5 I would like to suggest that we simply add the revision numbers in the issue description. That will help us to easy analyze if the fix is in the branch and trunk. Most fixes are probably fixed on trunk first and merged after some discussion on the branch. But do we need a fix direction here? I think no because it really depends on the issue. Keep in mind that we have some general tasks to do for each release that are not necessary on trunk. We should use svn merge to integrate a fix from one code base into another one. Juergen

[DISCUSS] Participate in another GSoC like programme
Some may recall that I kept promising the arrival of students from an EU Commission project on a GSoC style pilot in formal education. This was a very long way from successful but there was zero impact on our projects since we asked PMCs to mark GSoC level projects as mentor. This enabled us to provide a list of suitable projects for the students without PMCs needing to do additional work. I've now been approached by another EU Commission project proposal team that wants to do something similar, but this time with students doing the work as part of their assessed coursework (i.e. they have a strong motivation for doing the work). Another, big difference this time is that one of the partner organisations has ASF committers (2 of) and there are three open source savvy commercial organisations on the bid (DISCLOSURE: one of them is my little consultancy company). Given the way these proposals get written, there is a very tight deadline on this (2 days). Re: [DISCUSS] Participate in another GSoC like programme
Just a caveat...There was an issue with the now-attic-ed project Bluesky, which, as I understand it, was operated with teacher committers and student contributors. The whole IP/licensing issue looked ugly toward the end because none of the students had signed ICLAs and hadn't contributed the code directly with license acknowledgement checkboxes selected. GSoC is a volunteer thing. Schoolwork typically isn't. A school isn't an employer of students, and therefore I assume can't do a CCLA that would cover students. Can students be compelled through schoolwork assignments to do work that would then be treated as contributions? Or would this be like an internship or a dedicated class, such that signing up for it at all is contingent on signing an ICLA? Re: Question about text clipping mechanism in word processor
Hi, The idea sounds good to me. The task needs to accomplish piece by piece from my point of view. I'm look into text repaint process in word processor and trying to fix the character painting error in issue.119476 when inserting and deleting the text in first line of paragraph. Seems adding additional spacing before paragraph case to enlarge the repaint rectangle of paragraph line in SwTxtFrm::FormatLine(..) may be able to partially fix the problem. and the problem disturbs me is also how to store additional information :( 2012/6/25 Oliver-Rainer Wittmann orwittm...@googlemail.com Hi, On 22.06.2012 18:18, Fan Zheng wrote: Hi, Oliver: In some degree, I changed my mind following your answer that, we should not change the definition of SvxLineSpacingItem.

EIther the naming should indicate that this is a Windows iso, or - Howdy Dave, yes, your right - will fix that. IMO you ought to include MacOSX and Linux installers! I've been, in truth, hemming and hawing about actually doing this as it means a lengthy commitment once it's 'out in the wild' - so keeping the scope of the work product limited. Juergen, Ma and the gang will have the image obsolete in here in just a few weeks with 3.4.1 - for example. For the moment I would like to finish the windows only CD first. I have a MAC version in mind, and files mostly laid out, next. After all the details come together on this one it should be just a quick step to merge that to the MAC. Linux is interesting in that one could, and some do, construct it so that the media is also a proper, mountable, package repository. Anyway - it's a place to start from is all. Language moduls
Dear Madame, dear Sir, I am working with OpenOffice since years. I use version 3.4 at the time. Every now and then I loose contact to the language modules for no obvious reason. They don't show up under linguistics then. That means that neither the thesaurus nor the spell check work. I have tried everything from repairing the program to deleting and reinstalling it. Sometimes that helped, but this time there is no success what so ever . I didn't find an answer to my problem in the OpenOffice forum. So could you please advise me what to do or where the problem lies. I use the German version and technically I am more or less an idiot. With kind regards Thomas Rothschild
Pootle projects
I understand that we have Pootle projects for in-product strings, as well as a separate project for help files. But I don't understand why we have 3 different flavors of each. For example: Apache OpenOffice 3.4.x Apache OpenOffice 4.x Apache OpenOffice (Incubating) Is one trunk and one for the 3.4.1 branch? But which is the trunk? And why the 3rd project? -Rob

Re: Question about text clipping mechanism in word processor
Seeing my reply in following blue lines please: 2012/6/25 ZuoJun Chen zjchen...@gmail.com Hi, The idea sounds good to me. 1 Concern: Could such additional information to be available in ODF Standard? If not, whether it means that, the conversion from MS-Word Doc to ODT lead different representation result? What do other think about it? Best regards, Oliver.

[UX][Volunteers Needed] - Harvesting Social Data
Hello All, As mentioned in an earlier post, collectively, our social assets present a huge opportunity to engage the AOO user community, capture insight, feedback and thoughts on the current health of our products, and our future product direction. Harvesting data from our social media assets, forums and mailing lists is an extremely challenging task. With s much content in disparate sources, it is likely that many threads will fade into the archives. However, we can attempt to harvest any insight that is considered relevant and actionable - so that the valueable data is not lost. Also, some AOO contributors cannot access some social media sites. Capturing social data in the AOO UX wiki also ensures the relevant and actionable social data is open, accessible and visible to all. To be clear, I understand that such effort is not going to capture everything, nor is it ever complete. Rather, this is a chance to capture any notable insight that could help drive informed design and development decisions in the future. Some data is better than none. Also, some international AOO contributors cannot access some social media sites. Capturing social data in the AOO UX wiki also ensures the relevant and actionable social data is open, accessible and visible to all. I have created a number of pages within the AOO UX wiki [1] for harvesting and capturing social data. [1] http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/AOO_Social_Data I invite everyone to harvest insight from our social media and post to the wiki. If you see something relevant, that could be actionable, please harvest this information and post to the wiki. Feel free to tweak the document table format to suite the content. Such raw data can help feed the development of informed UX work products moving forward. For example, such data can help us define our user roles, validate key usage scenarios and capture actionable product recommendations. Tracing our design and development work products to real data ensures that we will make informed decisions driven by end user insight. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information on this ongoing research activity. Regards, Kevin
