[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] It's that time again: Bug Squashing Week!

2017-02-09 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi everyone,

This time around we're going to try for a full Bug Squashing Week rather
than one day. We hope that this will allow more of you to participate
around your existing obligations, and also allow more bug fixes to get
fully developed, tested, signed off, and merged since that is difficult to
do within the space of a single day.

*Dates: Monday, February 27 through Friday, March 3*

You may participate in Bug Squashing Day by:

- Submitting new bug fixes for reported bugs
- Testing bug fixes that others have submitted (these should have the
"pullrequest" tag)
- Confirming bug reports that haven't been reviewed yet (this is a great
way to participate if you're not a coder!)
- Pushing bug fixes into Evergreen (for core committers)

Please be sure to go into Launchpad and add your name to the "Assigned To"
field for the bug(s) you wish to work on. Multiple people can test the same
bug, but this will help reduce duplication of effort.

If you need a Sandbox to test a bug fix on that day, please fill out the
Sandbox Request Form by the end of the day on Monday, February 20. You may
also test in your own testing environment if you prefer (please include
version info when you update the launchpad ticket with your testing
results). Thanks in advance to MassLNC and MOBIUS for volunteering to
create sandboxes for testing!

Ah, I should also say, under the OCLC number options, we have:
"Add leading zeros to the OCLC Number search term": Yes
"Add the following custom prefix to all OCLC numbers": ocolc%20
This is based on how we've normalized the OCLC numbers in our system (2.10),
which I _think_ is the stock Evergreen configuration. Your mileage may vary,
though!

Replace example.org with your hostname, of course. You can
also add put "loc=123&" in front of qtype if you want to restrict the searches

to do that automatically for you.

Hope this helps!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Patron online self registration for immediate use accounts

2017-02-09 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi Lindsay,

We are interested in the possibilities of this idea. One of our key
considerations would be online identity and address verification (which
should be possible through a third party, such as the parties who verify
identities for credit card applications), and another consideration is the
prevention of duplicate accounts. In a large consortium like ours, we
already have significant issues with individuals finding ways to get
duplicate accounts, so we'd need to be sure that this process prevented the
problem from getting worse.

We are also interested in using this process to create full accounts (not
just for online use), with locally-determined options of the library
mailing physical cards to the patron or having the patron come in to a
library to pick up a physical card if they want one.

We have just migrated to Evergreen. I am investigating how to set up linking

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Patron online self registration for immediate use accounts

2017-02-09 Thread Blake Henderson

Lindsay,

Our consortium has asked for this as well. We have had subsequent
discussions with the community.

Mentioned here:

http://irc.evergreen-ils.org/evergreen/2015-11-16#i_215021

With the idea of leaving the patrons in pending.

I know it's been brought up a few times but I am unable to turn up the
conversations at the moment. The issue that keeps coming out of the
discussions is security. Especially if there is some automatic mechanism
to move the pending patrons to actor.usr. What's to stop the malicious
patron from racking up a bad account, then creating a new one and
continuing?

It's worth discussing on Launchpad though, to at least document it!

Looking at the existing patron self-registration feature, that just
creates pending accounts for staff to verify, etc.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Patron online self registration for immediate use accounts

2017-02-09 Thread Elisabeth Keppler
Because online resources are expensive and frequently the cost is related
to usage, Forsyth County (NC) verifies who someone is using photo id when
we create a library account and charges a non-resident fee for those who
live outside of a specified geographic area. Therefore, we're not in the
market for this development. Sorry.
