2020-08-20 Thread Terran McCanna
I just verified that it appears in current master (on a test server), so I
don't think it got inadvertently dropped.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] copy holds

2020-08-19 Thread Terran McCanna
It doesn't populate in that column until the copy is actually targeted for
the hold (which it can't do until the copy is in a status that can be
targeted).

I agree it would be helpful to be able to tell more easily which copy
*will* be targeted when there is a copy-level hold, though.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Feedback Fest Day 2 Update

2020-08-18 Thread Terran McCanna
Feedback Fest is going well this week, with 15 bug fixes and new features
tested and signed off so far, and numerous others tested and commented
upon.

There are around 30 more patches and features loaded onto test servers that
are readily available for testing - details at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11MjEa8V8d7NYxVM3s1Ra1IOdbhZPFExoWiWDOAKEXoE/edit?usp=sharing

Remember - the more testing we can get done, the better Evergreen 3.6 will
be!

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Community Feedback Fest Begins Today!

2020-08-17 Thread Terran McCanna
 Hi everyone!

The test servers for this week's Feedback Fest are up and the first batch
of bug fixes and new features has been loaded. The spreadsheet is here and
will be updated as new things are added:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11MjEa8V8d7NYxVM3s1Ra1IOdbhZPFExoWiWDOAKEXoE/edit#gid=0

All of the test servers have Concerto logins and data loaded (link at the
top of the sheet) so you can log in as different staff types, change
settings, add or modify bibliographic records, etc. If you haven't
participated in a Feedback Fest or Bug Squashing Week before, please review
the "How to participate" link below and feel free to reach out to me
directly if you have any questions.

And remember - all testing and feedback is valuable, so even if you can
only spend a small amount of time testing this week, it helps make the
software better! Looking forward to a great week of progress!

Ah - my assumption would be that it would work like Library Settings in
that it would look for a branch level one first and only look higher in the
hierarchy if it didn't find a branch one, but I could be totally wrong.

I haven't tried this, but it looks like the easiest thing to do would be to
clone your existing one and change the owning library to the branch you
wish to have the alternate text for.

However, if you want to do an IF statement, you should be able to do that
too. I don't have an example based on library ID, but I have one I did
based on permission group ID here:

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bug Squashing Week Status

2020-03-20 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi everyone,

This week's Bug Squashing Week has understandably had very little activity
since everyone is being impacted in some way by the COVID-19 virus.
(Including me - I haven't had time to do any testing at all.)

However, Chris Sharp and Blake Graham Henderson have been so kind as to
leave their sandboxes up and running for another week or two in order to
give us a chance to do some patch testing as time and opportunity allows.

The sandbox links and list of patches that have been applied to each one
are here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Xo6H5v7JSMJq9pU7yrh3hOgPoMtGCl2qPa2iV8gp3jM/edit?usp=sharing

Thank you, be happy and healthy and safe,
Terran

I'm sure we could keep at least one of the sandboxes available for longer -
let's see how it goes this week. I'm not sure how many community members
are working virtually this week, versus being off of work.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bug Squashing Week: This week

2020-03-16 Thread Terran McCanna
Hello everyone,

This week is the (perhaps unfortunately named) Evergreen Community Bug
Squashing Week. If you have a little bit of time to spare, your involvement
will be much appreciated! You can participate by contributing code and also
by testing, providing feedback, writing/updating documentation, and more.

There are several sandboxes (test servers) set up with patches that are
ready to test load onto them. Huge thanks to Chris Sharp, Blake

Due to the health and safety concerns of the Evergreen community during the
COVID-19 pandemic, the Evergreen Conference Committee and The Evergreen
Project Board have come to the conclusion that the 2020 Evergreen

refunded. (We will be reaching out to exhibitors directly as well.)

*Please be sure to cancel your hotel reservations. *

We are looking forward to the 2021 Evergreen International Conference in
Missouri!

All of our best wishes for your health and safety,

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Upcoming Evergreen Conference

2020-03-13 Thread Terran McCanna
Hello everyone,

I have been fielding a lot of emails from conference registrants and
exhibitors asking whether the conference will still occur, and
cancellations have begun coming in from state government employees that
have been directed to cancel all non-essential travel (Georgia is one of
the states that has done so).

We are still investigating options, but it is quite complicated with
multiple contracts involved. We will announce a final decision next week.

Be safe out there,
Terran

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Community Bug Squashing Week Next Week!

2020-03-10 Thread Terran McCanna
Our next Evergreen Community Bug Squashing Week is next week, March 16-20,
2020 and I hope you are all able to participate in some way!

During Feedback Fest last month, we were very focused on testing
patches/features that had been submitted in order to get them approved in
time for Evergreen 3.5. There will be more opportunities for testing next
week as well (I'm working on going through the list of available
pullrequests right now, and Chris Sharp, Blake Graham Henderson, and Bill
Erickson have agreed to build test servers for the purpose again), but this
is also a great time to go through old bugs to see if they are still valid,
read through new bugs to confirm and prioritize them, add tags to bugs that
don't haven't had tags, report new bugs, and provide additional feedback
and information to existing bugs.

You don't have to commit to working on Bug Squashing all week of course,
but every hour counts, and every bit of participation helps produce a
better product!

More information about Bug Squashing Week is here:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing

I'll send out the sandbox information on Monday morning.

Happy Squashing!
Terran

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Conference: Local Information

2020-03-04 Thread Terran McCanna
We are greatly looking forward to the upcoming Evergreen Conference in
Atlanta in April and hope that you will be able to attend!

We have added local travel, outdoor activity, entertainment, and dining
options to the conference site here:
https://evergreen-ils.org/conference/2020-evergreen-international-conference/local/

And sign-up sheets for the Friday night Dine-Arounds are available here:
https://evergreen-ils.org/conference/2020-evergreen-international-conference/social/

We have just picked a few locations to start, but we will add more
locations if enough people are interested in going out as a group. There
are a number of restaurants close to the hotel that the complimentary hotel
shuttle can take groups to, and there are hundreds of other restaurants of
all types within access by rideshare services, MARTA (the train), or by
carpooling. If you'd like to volunteer to be the group leader for a
Dine-Around, feel free to add your name to a current group that doesn't
have one, or feel free to create a new tab for the restaurant of your
choice. Feel free to contact me off-list if you have any questions!

Terran / The Evergreen Conference Committee

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Feedback Fest: Final Results

2020-02-26 Thread Terran McCanna
Thank you to the 41 Evergreen community members who pitched in during
Feedback Fest last week to help test bug fixes, updates to old user
interfaces, and new features!

Thanks to your dedication, *58* pieces of code were signed off on, and 31
of those have already been committed for inclusion in the core code.
Another 13 patches were tested and received substantive feedback. The
release managers and core committers are continuing to work through the
remainder of the sign-offs for possible inclusion in Evergreen 3.5.

By the numbers, this makes this the most successful Feedback Fest or Bug
Squashing Week we've had since we started these activities back in February
of 2017!

Special thanks to Chris Sharp, Blake Graham-Henderson, and Bill Erickson,
who made sandboxes available for testing by the community. Their support
made testing more feasible by members of the Evergreen Community who do not
have direct access to their own sandboxes.

If you'd like to see the complete list of tested pull requests and
statistics, the updated chart is available here:

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Feedback Fest: Sandboxes Ready for Testing!

2020-02-17 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi everyone and welcome to the first Feedback Fest of 2020!

Thanks to Bill Erickson, Blake Graham-Henderson, and Chris Sharp, there are
five sandboxes set up with new features and bug fixes applied:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nDXg83ZAZlDYBxb0z59-hKqEjjPxpEuUssI2qtANax4/edit?usp=sharing

The KCLS Sandbox has Bill's new staff catalog work applied, and will remain
available all week. The other four sandboxes have several patches apiece on
them, and after all of the patches on a particular sandbox are tested, that
sandbox will be rebuilt with a fresh set of patches.

To test:

1) Choose an item to test off of the spreadsheet (scroll to the right to
see the sandbox URL and login info).
2) Read over the launchpad bug report and comments, then test as fully as
you are able.
3) If you do not find see any problems or errors while testing, then sign
off on it (instructions at:
https://wiki.evergreen-ils.org/doku.php?id=dev:bug_squashing). If you do
encounter problems, do not sign off and add your feedback to launchpad. (I
will be monitoring the master Feedback Fest spreadsheet and marking each
item off once I see that it has been tested.)

Let me know if you have any questions!
Terran

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Fwd: Evergreen Feedback Fest: Next week!

2020-02-12 Thread Terran McCanna
We're trying something new for Feedback Fest next week (and if it works
out, we'll continue the idea for Bug Squashing Week next month).

Since the goal of Feedback Fest is to get focused input from the core
developers as well as open pullrequests approved, we (by which I mean,
Chris, Blake, and Bill) will be setting up several sandboxes that are
pre-loaded with selected pullrequests.

Bill with have a sandbox with his latest work on the Experimental Staff
Catalog loaded, and Chris and Blake will each have two sandboxes with a
handful of other pullrequests loaded onto them, for a total of 5 sandboxes.
Bill's sandbox will stay dedicated to the Experimental Staff Catalog all
week (and he may apply changes during the week if needed). For the other
four sandboxes, once all of the pullrequests on a sandbox have been tested,
that sandbox will get rebuilt with another set of pullrequests loaded.

The sandboxes won't be ready to start accessing until Monday, but you can
take a look at which pullrequests will be loaded onto them here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nDXg83ZAZlDYBxb0z59-hKqEjjPxpEuUssI2qtANax4/edit?usp=sharing

Let me know if you have any questions!

February 17-21, 2020 in order to get as many new features and bug fixes
with pullrequests tested and approved as possible for the next release
candidate.

We are currently working on building a group of sandboxes with

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Evergreen Feedback Fest: Next week!

2020-02-10 Thread Terran McCanna
The first Evergreen Feedback Fest of the decade is taking place next week,
February 17-21, 2020 in order to get as many new features and bug fixes
with pullrequests tested and approved as possible for the next release
candidate.

We are currently working on building a group of sandboxes with
patches/features applied in order to make testing easier. More information
on the sandboxes will come in the next few days.

In the meantime, you can read more about Bug Squashing in general here:

We use Syndetics. They've historically had a larger and more diverse
selection of covers than any other vendor. (However, I haven't compared
numbers recently.)

Ah! I poked at those a little bit but ended up sticking with the defaults
and using CSS to fine tune the sizing and spacing. I should go back and
revisit those now that we have it working.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Is anybody using the block list with the offline Web client?

2019-11-21 Thread Terran McCanna
PINES wasn't able to use it even if we filtered it down to just patrons
blocked for exceeding fines and ignored all of the other block reasons such
as expired cards.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] [Evergreen-catalogers] Adding Text to Call Number Template for Spine Labels

2019-10-28 Thread Terran McCanna
I'm not sure how to add logic in there to check for the existence of a copy
number. If you wanted to add c. to *all* of the labels, you could try this:

  ,get_cn_and_location_suffix(copy)

to be:

  ,"c. ", get_cn_and_location_suffix(copy)

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Records with no items

2019-10-24 Thread Terran McCanna
We have a report that identifies volumes with no copies attached if that
helps - it uses the Call Number/Volume data source and filters by:

Is Deleted (equals f)
Owning Library (In list)
Copies > Is Deleted (equals f)
Copies > Copy ID (is NULL)

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bug Squashing Week: Mid-Week Update

2019-09-11 Thread Terran McCanna
Bug Squashing Week is flying by!

So far, 27 people have actively participated by reporting new bugs,
updating existing bugs with more info, updating bug tags, testing patches,
submitting new patches, signing off on bugs, and committing code. There are
a couple of new names on the tracking spreadsheet this time, too!

There are 12 new or rebased patches submitted this week testing, so if
anyone would like to test those, that would be great!

The tracking spreadsheet is at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1qYNGrJBt42_ArQzbwlcnKxS3TobDnmquSXZzopOkZh4/edit#gid=0

And if you haven’t participated yet this week, there are still two more
days to get your name on the charts! :)

(FYI, I'll be out of the office tomorrow, so you won't see any movement on
the tracking sheet, but I'll catch it up on Friday!)

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] adding a picture to header and footer

2019-08-21 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi Bill,

You will need to upload the image file to a secure (https) web site so that
you can get a URL for it, and then use HTML to add that to your print
templates. For example:

https://pines.georgialibraries.org/dokuwiki/lib/exe/fetch.php?media=logo.png;
style="width:150px;padding:5px;">

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Organizational unit address in receipt templates

2019-07-31 Thread Terran McCanna
Hi Eva - you can still use the library settings to add standard text
blocks. I have instructions in the PINES docs here:

https://pines.georgialibraries.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=admin:workstations:receipts#include_text_across_multiple_templates_and_workstations

I think having access to the juvenile flag is a great idea. I've created a
wish list request for it in launchpad:

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Reported needed for waived fines and fees

2019-05-23 Thread Terran McCanna
We use this one for bills that have been forgiven (also includes 'work'
payments):

List of bills that were forgiven by library staff, or "paid" via work
in exchange for fine forgival.

Uses Payments: Non-drawer Staff source. Nullability selection enabled.

Displayed Fields:

Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> Amount as "Amount Forgiven"
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> (Default) Billable Transaction ->
(Default) Billing Line Items -> Legacy Billing Type (Last)
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> Payment Type
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> Payment Date/Time as "Forgival Date/Time"
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> (None) Forgive Payment Detail ->
(Default) accepting_usr -> (Default) Current Library Card -> Barcode
as "Staff Barcode"
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> (Default) Billable Transaction ->
(Default) User -> (Default) Current Library Card -> Barcode as "Patron
Barcode"

Base Filters:

Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> (None) Forgive Payement Detail ->
(Default) accepting_usr -> (Default) Home Library -> Organizational
Unit ID (In list)
Payments: Non-drawer Staff -> Payment Date/Time (Date) (Between)

NOTE: this report necessarily uses the home library of the staff user
accepting the forgive payment. This may *not* be the same as the
working location of the user.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bug Squashing Week / Feedback Fest Begins Today!

2019-05-20 Thread Terran McCanna
Welcome to Bug Squashing Week!

All bug reports, patches, sign-offs, and comments between today (Monday,
May 20) and Friday, May 24 will be recorded here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oxM5dA2FqPhUD81IIhnsoTuVkbfB2VoYTBKfhGMPwjk/edit#gid=0

How to Participate:

You may participate in Bug Squashing Day by:

   -

Submitting new bug fixes for reported bugs
   -

Testing bug fixes that others have submitted (these should have the
   "pullrequest" tag)
   -

Confirming bug reports that haven't been reviewed yet (this is a great

Several testing servers have been set up (thank you, Blake) with requested

some requests that came in late that haven’t been set up yet, but we will
try to get them ready in the next day or two. You are welcome to use these
sandboxes to confirm new bugs and to see if old bugs still exist as well:

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Conference followup question about preferred names

2019-04-29 Thread Terran McCanna
I don't recall which session this was in last week, or who asked (it's all
a blur!) but someone asked about how to use the patron preferred name
feature in the print templates to get the preferred name to show up on the
Hold Shelf Slip and I told them I would follow up. This is the code we used
in our hold shelf slips:

{{patron.pref_family_name}}{{patron.family_name}},
  {{patron.pref_first_given_name}}{{patron.first_given_name}}
  {{patron.pref_second_given_name}}{{patron.second_given_name}}

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Printing spine and pocket labels on 8.5 x 11

2019-03-18 Thread Terran McCanna
Hello,

The ability to print to 8.5x11 sheets directly from Evergreen is added in
Evergreen 3.3 ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1787479 ).

Prior to 3.3, you can export the data from Evergreen into a CSV file and
use with another program such as Word (with mail merge) or something like
the BarTender software.

[OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bug Squashing Week: Mid-Week Update

2019-03-06 Thread Terran McCanna
Bug Squashing Week is going fantastically!

So far, 25 people have actively participated this week by reporting new
bugs, updating existing bugs with more info, updating bug tags, testing
patches, submitting new patches, signing off on bugs, and committing code.

Kudos to Tiffany Little, Andrea Buntz Neiman, and Elaine Hardy for the
nearly 300 bugs that they have updated with official tags or marked Won’t
Fix because they were old bugs relating only to the XUL client. All of this
work serves to greatly improve findability.

There are 15 patches that were submitted this week with pullrequests for
testing, so if anyone would like to test those, that would be great! (They
are listed on the tracking spreadsheet below.)

The tracking spreadsheet is at:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1x_sZcEaP62J42KcB03AUn1I1MSZQpPI5mF9r0Zrmhgo/edit?usp=sharing

And if you haven’t participated yet this week, there are still two more
days to get your name on the charts! :)

Thanks, everyone!

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Spine Label Printers

2019-01-31 Thread Terran McCanna
The TSC TPP-247 continuous feed printer works well with the Evergreen web
client (we are on 3.2.2), and very shortly the development for printing
directly to full sheets of labels will be complete and then it will be able
to print to any laser printer.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Online Payments

2019-01-16 Thread Terran McCanna
Evergreen includes functionality to take payments online through Stripe,
PayPal, or Authorize.net. This can be done on a consortium level, a system
level, or a branch level. A number of our libraries are using it and all
have opted for Stripe. The library creates the account with their vendor of
choice, the vendor provides a public & private key, we add those keys in
the library settings editor, and it's good to go.

Our instructions to our member libraries is available at:

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] credit card payments in the OPAC

2019-01-07 Thread Terran McCanna
The PINES libraries that are taking payments via the OPAC are all using
Stripe. I don't recall the details of what the fees amount to, but when we
reviewed the various options, Stripe had the lowest fees and the easiest
setup. We do not have any libraries that are doing at the desk transactions
this way yet, but several are considering it.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Bill Notice from Notifications / Action Triggers

2018-11-30 Thread Terran McCanna
After some experimentation, we were indeed able to create a new action
trigger that leverages the existing penalty.PATRON_EXCEEDS_FINES hook so
that it generates an email at the same time the penalty is applied to
accounts. I'll work on figuring out how to put it in git for review, but in
the meantime, if anyone wants a description of how we implemented it, let
me know.

Re: [OPEN-ILS-GENERAL] Wordpress Bookshelf/cover art plugin with Evergreen support

2018-11-30 Thread Terran McCanna
Very nice! A lot of PINES libraries use Wordpress, so I will spread the
word.
