In the last 4 years of using SAM-FS/QFS I have fallen in love with this
product. I have tried earlier to ask Sun to incorporate features into this
product but in vain.
Do you think the following is worth exploring and in-corporating:
1. Unlike ZFS SAM-FS/QFS File system need compression

Sun Microsystems,
Alan,
I can't find this list here: http://opensolaris.org/os/discussions/
Is this because it isn't integrated with the website?
Thanks,

Looks like they have a mailing list, but not a web (jive) forum.

Joerg,
The SAM commands came out of former LSC, inc. I can't comment on
what was considered
in the naming of them. I have been with the product in one form or
another since 1998 and these SAM
commands existed then, probably since 94 or 95. They are included in
/opt/SUNWsamfs/sbin and bin.

I did research about 5 years ago regarding HSM file systems. QFS/SAMFS was a
leading contender in that space. It also had the added benefit of having a
truly massive ability to scale. (We ended up going with another product,
because our first choice of optical jukeboxes was not supported.)

All,
I can affiliate with the storage community until an FS community exists
