up under the Xfce desktop environment (plus 1 point for Xfce) but
does not under Gnome. I hope this brings up any clues but makes no
sense to me why it would start on one and not the other :(

whilst booting, not in any one particular place. Vista works fine.

Enable saving the session when you logoff, that should automatically
start kwin next time you log in.

I run a school network with an nfs server with authentification via nis. kdm
is used on the clients for the user to login.
In 10.3 the list of usernames doesn't appear on the first boot of the client.
This is because ypbind seems to run _after_ the login screen appears. One can

default window manager, mine is set to kde, can it be replaced with
compiz in order to use compiz instead of kwin? which is the command i
have to put in there, compiz, compiz-fusion,ccsm?

ok.sorry. I fired too quickly. After the kernel update and reboot,
USB RAM wasn't available to the systemHAL had a problem. I rebooted
again and now all is well..go figure.
