You are not only making sense, you have hit the primary issue with the
Oracle standby database directly on the head. With DataGuard in 9i
(or 8i on HP-UX or Solaris only), you can *try* to retrieve redo log
files. You could also do it manually - with any version.

same, which is a problem if you use RMAN for you backups.
Steps
are:

resetlogs;
1. Backup your

Your Rollback Segment is NOT large enough.
You don't have to shut down the DB just yet.
You can remove ALL your test data without
an INSERT (which creates RollBack entries)
by using TRUNCATE TABLE x where 'x' is the name of your Table.

be any user by name oracleSID (most likely). All the oracle processes
