don't set NLS_LANG, then NLS_DATE_FORMAT
is ignored (at least in 8.1.7 on Tru64).
Don't forget to shutdown your auxiliary db, delete it's files, then start it
up again, NOMOUNT.

to do this. The duplicate will create the control, data, and redo log files.

With 8i, the databases automatically register with the listener. You can disable it
by pointing to a port that is not used by a listener.
In the initSID.ora put the following entry:

RMAN does not backup online redo files. If you take a cold backup, then restore it,
you need to issue an 'open database resetlogs'. These documents on MetaLink may be
