Dear Oracle-L subscriber,
Due to changing circumstances, the Oracle-L mailing list has
found a new home.
Fatcity.com has graciously hosted Oracle
Write in C ("Let

When I find my code in tons of
trouble,
Friends and colleagues come to
me,
Speaking words of
wisdom:
"Write in
C."
As the deadline fast
approaches,
And bugs are all that I can
see,
Somewhere, someone
whispers:
"Write in

Write in C, Write in

Write in
I think that if you use exactly the same file names and db structure in both
of your
database, you can simply ( if it is possible) bring down the production
database
and copy the files to the test database.

Verification was easy. We just powered down the primary machine, changed the

You can try advanced replication. It has overhead of about
10% on multi master synchronous replication on the live system. Use this only if
you can put the servers near enough so you can directly connect then with high
speed network cable.

Bill,
You can use TOAD Freeware version to compare two schemas (View/Schema
Differences menu).
As for table data
DO NOT USE AUTOEXTEND on these datafiles.
There is a bug when datafile autoextend into 2GB or 4GB (I do not remember
exactly now) on NT.
We had a database down permanently because of this.
We do not work with any X OS here so I am talking about NT only.

I know it is late but:
Since nobody mention it - upload the report to http://www.oraperf.com/ and you will get a report with explanation
and recommendations.

Title: Unbreakable, my buns. Upgrade to 9.2/w2k
For my OID testing I decided to go with
9.2.0.3.
I installed9.2.0.1 (software only) and the upgraded
to 9.2.0.3 with no problems.
Since I also documented the process so I will have all the
steps down when I will do it in production I did it
list you want to be removed from). You may
also send the HELP command for other information (like subscribing).

The create view does not access the data at all. It just create an object in
the data dictionary.
What you need to compare is 'select * from view' against doing the select
from sqlplus.

.
If the need arise you can use Netop or other PcAnywhere to take control of
the server and do your work from there.
We are on windows servers and clients.

Title: RE: WinNT / 8.0.5 / DECODE function affecting Century result in date
I just did a test on the decode and
"DECODE('301230,NULL,NULL,TO_DATE('19'||'301230','MMDD'))")
returned 1930/12/30 as required while
"DECODE('301230,NULL,NULL,TO_DATE('301230','MMDD'))")
returned 2030/12/30
Just my 2 cents:
Last backup from 03-Feb is way too long. Data check on one of the tapes,
that you backed the archive logs to, and you can not recover.

if you are talking about dbase files you can do it via Excel.
Excel has drivers both for oracle and for dbase files.
