I transferred a woman in from home and I think that's the woman you're talking about Suzi, (small world) and yes, we didn't think anything was out of the ordinary with her fluid intake, but her baby was very flat with a low sodium level...I think they decided it was some kind of strange and self

No I don't think we should limit the amount they drink but I don't think we should encourage excessive fluid intake, perhaps just to make sure they are not thirsty is a good idea. Christine -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Tania Smallwood

Re the woman I cared for who fitted because of hyponatraemia. I wondered whether she was already low in sodium because she only ever drank reverse osmosis filtered water and never added salt to food. She was on a very restricted macrobiotic diet, but not so well balanced. Mm

Agree completely Christine, that's what I remember from this birth, and all others I've been at, have never felt concerned that a woman is overdrinking, although sometimes worried that they are not drinking enough :) Tnaia x -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL

[ozmidwifery] IUGR

2006-10-10 Thread Kelly @ BellyBelly
A mum and dear friend I am supporting is due on November 9th and has had two previous IOL for IUGR. At her scan today, she said: Head Circ around 31cm just a couple of days off Gestational Age... aka perfect Leg bone length - Perfect about 4 days off Gest Age BPD (not sure what that is)

2006-10-10 Thread Judy Chapman
Is it really IUGR Kelly? Maybe like a greyhound, healthy but no spare fat. At 36 weeks babies are taking on their genetic predisposition to weight and this baby's may be small, like its siblings. Serial US, some say they can cause IUGR!!! Cheers Judy --- Kelly @ BellyBelly [EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: [ozmidwifery] IUGR

2006-10-10 Thread Mary Murphy
The important measurement here is the abdominal circumference. 4 weeks below gest age indicates IUGR. The next important measurement is U/S Doppler flow. This, + Amniotic fluid levels are the most reliable indication of babys health. Reverse Doppler flow the most ominous. MM
