Nero Express 5.5 DVD, and accessibility

2005-02-27 Thread Andrew Shipp
Hello All, This version of Nero Express 5.5, I received with the DVED
player and recorder, I tried to use this last night and found it very
hard to use, so is there any scripts for this program? or can someone tell
me of a version Of Nero that is accessible for us. I just don;t seem to be
able to find a program for burning DVD's so if anyone out there can tell me
of one I would be very appreciative. I am using Jaws V6.

Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

2005-02-27 Thread Gary Petraccaro
Two ways to do what you want. You could go into Pitch which is off alt-c
and fiddle with the sliders, using the preview function so that you can tell
when you've got things the way you want. You could also go into the
properties of the recorded file, alt-enter, look for the Performance tab
with ctrl-tab, and move from 44,100 to 22,050. Make sure you do the Next
recording at 44,100, so you can repeat the process. Actually, it doesn't
have to be 44,100, it can be anything setting you can halve. Remember, this
will effect the sound of the tape, so, if you decide to use 22,050 and go to
11,025, things will sound different from 44,100 and 22,050.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I am trying to record from a steroe tape deck to Sound forge. I am
recording a 4 track talking book.

I am able to separate the tracks, and reverse the one that has recorded

I thought I could achieve this with re-sampling but doesn't seem to work,
what am I doing wrong?

Burning Windows Media Files to CD

2005-02-27 Thread Bruce Toews
I have some Windows Media files which I downloaded from
www.puretracks.com. Of course, these being licensed files, they want to
use Windows Media to burn them to CD. But Windows XP keeps insisting
there's no CD in the drive, when I know there is, and a program like
CDRWIN will have no trouble with it. Any ideas?

Re: total recorder not recording

2005-02-27 Thread Dean Martineau

JoAnn, we should start simply. If you have Winamp 5.x and are running Win
xp, that's ideal, but that's what I use so I know it should be able to
work. The scheduler shouldn't have hurt anything, but let's not use it
until you can get a recording.  Find a nice small mp3 file to play with;
launch Total Recorder, hit ctrl-r, then go launch the mp3 file. After some
seconds, stop the recording, stop the mp3 file if it isn't already over,
and try to play. this may be identical to what you did, and if so, either
we'll move on or I'll suggest you write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re[2]: total recorder questions

2005-02-27 Thread Dean Martineau

Indeed, the manual states that, if most of us recommend, you only use the
total Recorder driver when the program is active, as opposed to replacing
your usual sound drivers with the Total Recorder driver all the time, that
you must start a Total Recorder recording first before the source you want
to record is launched.

As for your problems of losing speech once you start Total Recorder, the
people at High Criteria sent me a .reg file which fixed the problem. The
problem identifies JAWS, probably because that's what they've heard of. I
use JAWS, and it solved my problem, which was that I could record, but the
recording also captured software speech and I knew it didn't do this on my
other computer. I haven't looked at the file to try to see if I could
understand what it does; it could really be generic. Then again, HAL uses
a different software speech synth, right? My advice would to write to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and courteously describe your situation and ask
them for a fix. I think there's a good chance you'll get one; that's been
one of the things that has impressed me about this company.

Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

2005-02-27 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hi!
Alt+C P will get you in to the pitch menu. There you have to hit S for
Shift.
You should be on some preset's. Try each one of them by down errowing and
hit ALT+P to preview the setting's effect on your sound file. ALT+P is a
toggle. Pressing it again will stop the listening of the selection.

Use your mouse cursor to look around. each preset changes a few values on
the screen.
Final time and Musical equivalent.
In my example they are:

Final time (00:02:37.341 to 15:52:34.800): 01:39:57.669
Musical equivalent: Down Octave
Hope this helps. If not, please write me privatley, and I'll try and help
you.

Re: Recording - what would you use ...

Jeff, the MZ-B100 portable MD recorder and a Sony ECM 719 Microphone,
which one can use hands free is a good combination. Another option is
the Sanyo ICR-B180NX, an MP3 dictation recorder with a built-in stereo
microphone and a built-in speaker. One can transfer the recorded MP3s
easyly to a PC with that one. However, the highest recordable frequency
on the Sanyo is 7500 Hertz. Also, it seems to be very difficult to get
in the U. S.

Hi all, speaking of winamp, I don't necessarily care for the fact that
when playing any windows media content like .wma files, that you have
to use the nullsoft direct sound output plugin, because if you try to
play a .wma file with the waveoutput plugin, you'll get an error, but
maybe that is a licensing issue, just something you have to get use to.

speech compression options?

2005-02-27 Thread Dean Martineau

I'd love to get a portable device with speech compression. It doesn't look
to me like the Edirol Jerry wants to review has it. I know about Bookport,
Bookcourrier and the expensive gizmo from Plextalk, but I'm looking for
other options. Right now what I do is to run files through the Winamp
Pacemaker plug-in to speed the playback before transferring them to an mp3
player, but this, while I can do it in the background, is still an extra
step I wouldn't mind skipping. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Hello, I've been working with the author of N-Track, the
 multi-track
software, and he has made the latest build of the program accessible
 once
more. To get the menus to speak, uncheck the icons in menus box in
 the
options settings. Also, by default, the program recorded two files
 at a time
for use with two sound cards. If you only have one sound card, and
 wished to
record in stereo, the button wasn't accessible, and he had to modify
 the
configuration file and send that to me, but he has fixed this, and
 now
control alt f4 opens the settings which cannot otherwise be
 accessed. So go
and download the latest build from the web site and start using and
 enjoying.
 Thanks a lot.

Oh, you've got Jaws set as it's default to detect languages. This program

from Italy, so go to the configuration manager and uncheck the box where
it

The Victor Classic and Classic Plus both have speech compression. I can't

excellent.

hi all, i use total recorder mostly for recording to my pc. but what i
want
is a program that is capable of waking the pc up from standby and
recording
several scheduled recordings over a few days successfully. total recorder
(using the scheduler facility in it) seems to be able to wake the pc up
from
standby, but it doesn't seem able to record and save successfully. i've
recently been away for a few days and left it all set up to record some
programs via the line in from my dab radio. when i got home i found each
scheduled recording has an error against it and no recordings were saved.
am
i missing something within total recorder, or is there a better program
for
doing this sort of thing. i've played with total recorder last night and
set
up several scheduled recordings while i monitored what happened. if the
computer had to be woken from standby, i got errors (no idea what error
was
as total recorder doesn't seem to want to divulge this useful info), if
the
computer was running normally, then stuff recorded fine.

This depends on the file system you are using -- for a FAT file system
the largest file size is 4gb -- for NTFS its 2**64, if I remember
correctly. I think Goldwave should save any file your file system can
handle -- at least adccording to the manual.

Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

2005-02-27 Thread Jerry Richer
In the Resample dialogue there is a checkbox labeled Check the sample
rate only, do not resample. In order to get the speed you expect it needs
to be checked when you do your resampleing.
I've never understood why people do the resampleing. I always use
pitch shift. If you're recording from a commercial tape deck then you would
want to pitch shift down one octave or 12 semitones.

Re: N-Track problems are resolved

2005-02-27 Thread Matthew Bullis
As I said in my review, the cost for upgrading from the 16 bit to the 24 bit
is the price difference from $42 to $64, but this new upgrade from version 3
to version 4 is about $25. If you've got a registered version of the program
from February of last year or later, it's a free upgrade, but if yours is
like the one I registered three years ago, then you'll have to pay the fee.
If you're going to upgrade from 16 bit to 24, and from the older version to
the latest, it will be about $40. It's on the web site when you're ready to
upgrade.
Thanks a lot.

Subject: 1 Question About Winamp And Windows Media Player each

Hi.
I got 2 questions about Winamp and Windows Media Player each.
1.
How can I add a bookmark or add to favorite a playing stream in Windows
Media Player?
2.
How can I get the file-info, such as bit rate, length of track etc in
Winamp5x, please?
Thanks!

Re: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

You need to try the pitch shift function. That will do it for you.

Subject: Sound forge question, Slowing down speed of recorded sound

Hi,
I am trying to record from a steroe tape deck to Sound forge. I am
recording a 4 track talking book.

I am able to separate the tracks, and reverse the one that has recorded
backwards, but they are at hte normal speed so need to be slowed down.

I thought I could achieve this with re-sampling but doesn't seem to work,
what am I doing wrong?

P.
