Friends I'd like to ask a question.
One folder I have has 3.23 gb of music. and those are just single songs.
another one on the same external drive that I have has Just a second,
about oh, 25 gb of once again single songs. all in .mp3. will those
folders fit on single-sided dvd's?

I don't want to love any of this music!

Well, I wanted to be able to use it not near a computer, and I do not

 Hi,

I want to make an audio CD and haven't done this before. If I have wave
files will I be able to burn these to CD with the CD burning wizard (that
comes up when you right click the CD drive and choose write these files
 to
 CD)?

Also, presumably I should add some silence to the end of each track?
 These
are recordings I've made from the radio and have chopped off the
 unnecessary
ends; so do I need to put some silence at the end of each track so they
don't all play as one long sound in a CD player?

 Thanks,

I can tell you Richard that Rockbox is a piece of software written by
VI guys I believe, to make some Ipods and other non-speaking portable
players accessible via speech feedback.

Seems in pretty well all instances installing this software, well,
firmware modification, invalidates the warranty that comes with
players.

Sure if you do a search Google will come up with the places you can
download it.

(All this from someone who's not cool enough to own an IPod or any
other MP3/AAC player, though I've got a Zenstone.)

Cheers,

Hi all

My name is Richard.

I'm a musician and I'm interested to know more about audio.

Recently, I posted few questions on this list concerning the
accessibility
of mp3 players.

What's rockbox?

I don't know if my emails are coming through this list but I don't
understand I get any response on basic questions that passionated
people
like you should know answers about.

Hope someone could help me.

 the iPod...
 Simpelist method:::
 Sighted person not required. Lol!
When the iPod classic is turned on [any button to do so], hit
play.
 This
will play all your songs in order.
 Basic steps:::
I required some sighted assistance, but since I am telling you
these
 pointers, you will not.:
 For shuffle;
 1) Go to main menu on iPod classic. By hitting menu on the top of
the
clickwheel. Hit it 2 to 3 times to mkae sure you are in the main
menu.
 2) You should be able to hear an audible click, as you move from
 option to
option on a menu. In this step it doesn't matter if the click is
 set to go
through the head phones, or the iPod internal speaker.

Click down the menu, until you hear no more audible clicks.
 3) Go up one click (and/or option). And hit enter (select button).
 It should
shuffle the songs and start playing.

 Now playing:
 1) Go to the main menu.
 2) Go to the very last option, and hit enter.
*note: If there hasn't been a play session started, you will
 shuffle the
 songs!

 Audio books:
note: This is my setup, if you have different folders or
playlists,
 I am
sorry if this does something to your iPod. *smile*
 1) Go to main menu, and go to the very first option [music].
 2) Go all the way down until the iPod classic stops clicking, and
 go up one
 click.
 3) Listen away.

The time has come for me to get a lot of audio files off of my computer.
I am looking to order new CDR's to do this.
I was looking at them on:

The CDR's that I'm looking at has 80pt.
I've never seen or heard this term and or speck before.
Can anyone tell me what the letters pt means?
 Thanks

2007-10-19 Thread anthony campbell
hi brian, your audio settings are in the control panel and it is called
sounds and audio. go in their and tab to advanced and enter. to get to the
windows sounds. when you go in to sounds and audio just do a ctrl tab and it
will take you in and you can change everything in their. just tab to a list
arrow down when you get to the item you want to assign a sound to tab to
browse and then to look in and select media tab to list view and select the
sound you want and tab to open then you can shift tab and play the sound you
have chosen for that item. you can do this for all your changers and then
tab to the end and press apply.

and your done.

Hi list, i have a problem. last night, when i closed down my

up, it didn't play its usual song, and when i asked eudora for my
e.mail, i got the e.mails, but eudora didn't announced that it had
finished with its song. also, when i loaded skype, it usual gives a
whooshing noise, but today it didn't. i then found, that foobar, wma,
would load audio files, would give me details of them, such lenhth
and things such as 22050, but wouldn't play. obviously some setting
has gone adrift. i can't find where the playback controls are, or
whatever it is i need. my synthesiser is working alright. if anyone
can help, i would be grateful. brian.

Hi Lary. I know this is a couple days late, but sometimes that does
happen. But the important thing is this. The very best way to solve
the problem is to try to contact the developers, send them some info
about your error message and anything else that might be necessary.
The best advice any of us here on any of these lists can give you is
to just uninstall and re-install but as you said, it doesn't seem to
help. Most of the developers seem to hang out at the Winamp forums
 located at
 http://forums.winamp.com
Unfortunately they still appear to be using a captcha system which
doesn't appear to have an audio alternate *make note to self to write
 to them about that*
but if you ask them via e-mail and explain your reasons for wanting
to sign up to report a problem, you will hopefully get some
help. But that really is the best way to report a major bug like
that, if it had to do with screenreaders we could approach the
vendors and ask for help but since this seems like it's a Winamp only
thing, then the forums are probably your best way to go.
 Hope that helps.

Hi. As a couple of folks in this group have suggested, I'm looking at
Windows Media Player as a possibility for taking over many tasks that I
now
assign to Winamp. But for the moment, my question is this. In Winamp 5.35
I
frequently encounter a runtime error. Reinstalling hasn't seemed to help
and
no other player exhibits this issue. Has anyone else experienced this
problem?

Hi, i have tried to use this same software with nero 6, and have the check

output files are ready to be burned with appropriate software, but does
 not
continue and automatically prompt me to put in the empty disc or burn.
what can be wrong, any idea?

drive and open dvd shrink. befor you can start the process you need to
 tell
dvd shrink to use nero. open dvd shrink and go to the edit menu in the
 edit
menu will find the preference click on that and shift tab once and then
 ctrl
tab to the file/iso item and tab to use nero. then close and go to the
process of a disk. dvd shrink will tell you automatically when to place

Okay, Folks. I've done what several of you instructed: Saved the email
message with a .mim extension, and opened the .mim in WinZip. I find a
couple of .txt files, a couple of files with no extension, but NO .wav or
other audio format files. I've tried playing the no-extension files, just
 to see, but no luck.

Is anyone willing to take a look at this email message for me, and see if
you can figure out where the audio is hiding?

 Thanks.

 Hey everyone,
has anybody heard of haali media splitter? I apparently have several
instances of this thing in my syst tray and am trying to figure out how to
get rid of it. I did a Google search and came up with some references to
 MP4
or some kind of video files and have some vague recollection of using some
embedded player when surfing at some point, but can't figure out what
program this is associated with. i'm assuming that this is more of a
nuisance thing than actually harmful, but really would like it gone if
 there
is a way to do it without creating a mess. The only other thing i did
recently that might be remotely connected was that I installed and
configured Windows live Messenger and at first I thought this was the
culprit, but I don't think so now. anyway, would appreciate any help or
 advice with this. Many thanks.

 Susan

 Hi All,

I know absolutely nothing about how to use Total Recorder, Goldwave, etc,
but believe these programs are capable of cleaning up sound recordings.
 Is
that true? If it is possible to do this type of thing, I was wondering if
any of you might be willing to help me try and clean up a recording.

The recording in question is a song that was recorded on a Olympus 3100
digital recorder. There is just a bit of distortion and/or vibration from
time to time. I am going to upload the song to my computer this weekend
 and
want to clean it up if possible.

The song is very special to many people. It was written for a good friend
and co-worker who recently passed away. I am going to share the song with
her family and friends, and want to make it sound as good as possible
 before
passing the song on. Any help would be appreciated.

 Katrina

Re: Audio grabber

2007-01-08 Thread anthony campbell
hi jed, did you get the track list from the database.

here is what you do.

open audio grabber with your disk in the drive.

fill in the artist and album title.

then hit alt c and then hit f .

this will take you to the database and you should get your track list. you
may have to tab after hitting the alt c and f key because they might be more
than one listing in the database. just pick the first one and press entre
you will now have the track list and just do alt c and g for grab.

Hello, all. It looks like I've found my first problem with DVD Audio
Extractor. Today, I received my copy of Memoirs of a Geisha from Columbia
House DVD club, and it says that the disk is copy protected. Can you
 guess
what happened when I tried to rip the audio from the DVD with DVD Audio
Extractor? You got it, it won't work. I got a small file of about 670
 KB,
and that's all she wrote. It looks like we won't be able to use this
 program to rip copy-protected CD's, and that's a really big bummer. I
thought you all would want to know this, although it's bad news for those
 of
us who thought we had found the magic program. Thanks, and everyone have

 Hi Betsy.

9.16.4. Automatically Dropping Que Points into Spaces in Music

Files and at Specified Intervals in a file

If you have a whole recorded album of several tracks in a single

file and you would like to automatically detect the silent spaces

between each individual track and get a que point dropped in the

middle of these silent spaces you can do so. You might want to

do this prior to then using the Split Files feature which is

also in the Edit, Que Points sub-menu. Do this by:

 1. With your whole file album of tracks open, press ALT E, O and

 then ENTER.

 2. SHIFT TAB back to Auto Que and press ENTER.

 3. You should be in the Mark Silence sheet but if you are not,

press CONTROL TAB to get there.

 4. By default, spaces of at least 1.5 seconds only will get que

points inserted into them. You can change some of these

parameters if you like, e.g. change the 1.5 to 1.0 for one minute

if the album you are automatically dropping que points into has

only short gaps between tracks. When finished, just press ENTER

 to start the procedure.

 5. TAB to Close and press ENTER.

9.16.5. Using Que Points to Split a file or Album into Several

 Separate Files or Tracks

If you would like to split a long file into separate individual

files, such as sections, chapters or separate music tracks from

a single track recorded album, you can do this provided that your

sound file is in one of a few formats, including WAV and Apple

 formats. Do this by:

 1. If your file has not already had que points dropped in it in

the appropriate places, e.g. between music tracks, do this first.

 2. With your long speech file or whole music album open in the

Sound window, press ALT E (for Edit), O (for Que Point) and then

 S (for Split File).

 3. The split files will go to your normal saving destination

 folder, unless you change this.

 4. TAB to a list of possible formats just before the destination

folder browsing tree and ensure that Use CD Compatible Wave

Format and Alignment is selected if you are splitting music

tracks up to then burn onto a CD. This not only ensures the

correct Cd sector burning points for the music tracks but it also

converts the files to the correct bit rate, sampling rate, etc,

format for Cd burning as well.

 5. TAB to OK and press ENTER.

 6. That is as easy as it is simply to get such split up tracks

saved in your default saving folder. They will automatically be

given filenames such as Track01.wav, Track02,wav, etc.

Note: In the above split files dialogue, if you like, you can

change the starting file/track numbering start point from such

as track01.wav to, say, track04.wav. You might want to do this

to avoid earlier saved tracks being over-written or to avoid one

or more of your tracks not being saved at all because of other

files already being in the folder with that same name. This

starting track number point will be remembered by GoldWave, so

be sure to change it back to 1 the next time you use this

 feature.

Hi all! I spent a little of my Christmas cash and bought a Logitech USB
headset/mic combo today. When I got it home and plugged it into my USB
port, all went correctly, windows saw everything it needed to see and it's
being recognized. In the instructions, it says to make sure the headset
 is
your default playback device in windows which, when it's plugged in, it
is. When I unplug it, it goes back to my sound card. While it's plugged
 in
to the USB port for some reason, certain sounds come through the headset,
and other sounds come through the speakers. for example on a skype call,
the person speaking comes through my speakers, but software speech from
JAWS and other sounds can be heard on my headset. Not only that, but
 people
tell me that the volume level is very low. I wanted to see if I could
track the problem down, so I went into the windows volume control and made
sure the mic was checked in playback. it wasn't, so I checked it and the
mic level was only at like 19% so I kicked it up to 70% so I could test
it. So when I did that, i made a call to echo 123 on Skype and tested it.
I couldn't hear myself, which obviously means something is wrong, but I'm
not sure what it is. I even made sure that the mic was unmuted in
playbackso i'm not sure what the deal is.

If anyone has any ideas of how to fix this, I'd very much appreciate it!

Subject: problems recording with goldwave

 Hi all!
I'm trying to record myself singing into my microphone with goldwave, but
when I go to play back the file, I get dead air. I went into the control
panel and tested my hardware, and everything seems to be working fine. I
was wearing headphones at the time, because I had originally intended to
sing with a karaoke file and mix them together. It's a good thing I
decided to do a test recording first. I really don't think the headphones
should make a difference though. I have no idea what could be wrong.
 Thanks!

Hi list. Is there still a version of Skkype that will work with Win 98 SE?
I use Win 98 SE and a dial-up modem, and JFW 4.51, and my PC is 333 MHz and
64 megs of RAM. I see the current version needs 128 megs of ram, and Win
2000 or XP; I'm interested in it but don't want to go buy a new PC just so I
can use the current version of Skype. Any info on a version that works with
  Win 98 SE and 64 megs of RAM, and works with JFW 4.51, would be appreciated;
  thanks.

Anthony! You should be able to play the MIDI file in whatever MIDI
player you like, set your Sound Card to record from What You Hear,
Stereo
Mixer or whatever it's called on your computer and record the audio in
Goldwave. Once it's recorded just increase the volume.

Hi all,
I'm somewhat inexperienced and uninformed about this stuff, and I think
the
answer to my question is no, but I'll ask it anyway.

Can you take a standard audio CD and convert it to mp3 format? If so,
which
program works best for this? Also there are a number of different file
extensions but what is the file extension for a commercially purchased
audio
CD?

With your help, I'll get up-to-speed on this stuff one of these days. I
just don't have the time to spend on it that I would like to have.
Thanks much.

 Hello,
What are the least expensive options for CD burning software you've come
across that are also speech-friendly? Thanks for your input.

Subject: can I use windows media player to play real audio files?

 Hi all,
Well, I've had it, I've had it with real player. Every time I want to
play a real media audio file now, it won't play. It keeps trying to upgrade
me to the new version, and it also keeps opening a window that says hourly
news and all that kind of junk.
I want to uninstall real player. I also want to play real audio files
using windows media player, can I do this? If I can, will someone tell me
how to get windows media player to play real audio files?
 Harry
