Downloaded software and games. I don't believe that stores recordings.

I agree with Gary. As a blind person, I see no reason to pay more. If you
have sighted people in your house of course, there are advantages as he
pointed out. Amazon prime day is coming up. I don't know what country you
are in. But if you are one that gets that primed day thing, you might wait
and see what specials they will be having, especially if you're interested
in the Fire TV. They always seem to discount their own products fairly
heavily.

Hi John,

Yes, with the fire tv stick, you can access netflix and see categories of
movies, go through lists etc. When I first got the tv stick, sign in was not
accessible. Now it is, according to other blind people; since I got sighted
help for my initial sign in, I haven't had to do that again, so I can
personally verify it. My set up is wifi. I honestly don't remember how
difficult it was to do that sign in, because it was several months ago, and
I've gone through a lot of stuff in my personal life since then. Now the
fire stick has alexa as well as the voiceview screen reader. I don't use the
alexa much, but it is there. I also can't speak to Pandora accessibility,
since I don't use that service.
But netflix is good, better than on the apple tv, because it is better at
announcing the category or row of movie listings you are in.

Just how completely and fully is Netflix accessible? Are you able to use a

on various movies. Are you able to with your setup, find and then scroll
down through various categories and individual movie selections? Is your
setup WyFy? If Netflix and Pandora accessibility that good, would you please

I did not read the access world review, and only fairly recently got the
fire TV stick. But it works fine, although some apps are not accessible. All
of the Amazon stuff is accessible. Netflix is accessible. You can adjust the
voice speed and the volume. So I'm not sure what you might be looking for
specifically in terms of accessibility questions.

Subject: annoying behaviour of voice dream reader on ios lately

Hi all

I have always and am still a huge fan of voice dream reader on my iphone
but lately the programme is acting up. In the past, I could stop the
program, do something else on the phone and then return to boice dream.
The program would return me to the exact place where I left off. Lately,
when reading an audio book consisting of multiple mp3 files, it will return
me to the beginning of the file I was busy with and not to the exact place
in the fiole where I stopped. I know it can be remedied by inserting a
bookmark where you sstoppped each time. The point though is that in the
past it was not necessary.

Has anyone found this lately with voicedream?

André

First of all thanksw for your replies concerning what workstation

Now I have another question to jog your memory banks:

Does anyone remember what is recommended for home-based radio

someone on broadcasting in general: i. e. what basic hardware and
software equipment for a beginner to get started in internet radio. any
and all suggestions and recommendations are always appreciated of course!

Thanks for all your help,

2013-03-18 Thread Johnny Angel

I am in the market to set up my little recording studio to record some
podcasts including some of my own music which I have written on the
piano. My question is: Does anyone know what mucical keyboard sequencer
or workstation is most accessible to the blind?

Thanks,

Defraggler

2012-08-26 Thread Johnny Angel

Hi all,

I am working with a friends older PC. He is not too up on keeping his
stuff maintenanced, so I'm teaching him about what is needed to keep his
computer running at optimal performance.

I ran disc clean up, then I ran C Cleaner. Now I am running Defraggler.
Defraggler has been running for aproximately 24 hours and it is just
at 3% defragged. I see files moving along as they are processed, but it
seems that things are running exceptionally slow. Does anyone have any
idea on what I should look at to speed things up in this process?

Thanks,

Johnny

VueScan question

2012-08-15 Thread Johnny Angel

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry if this is OT for this list but I didn't think it would be.
Please forgive me if it is.

I wish to check out VueScan on my PC wit OpenBook Unbound 8.0 using a 5
year old Epson Perfection 1660 flatbed scanner. I wrote this question
to the VueScan programer, but he didn't know the answer and told me to
try it out. I'm just afraid that I might screw something up if I install
it on my Epson scanner software being used with Openbook.. What do you
guys think about me trying VueScan on my XP-Home desktop machine? Will
I screw something up? Would installing it enhance my scanning and OCR
results, or am I wasting my time.?

Please let me know what you guys think,

Johnny

Please let me know if you get an answer to your question below. I to

a brand new three year old daw sitting packed away in it's box. BTW,
is there new setup software available for this baby? How are able to
work with it?

Someday I would like to be able to set up my Kurz with it and do some
recording and I also have aspirations to do some radio as well.

Google Chrome and Google home page woes

2011-12-02 Thread Johnny Angel

Hi all,

I thought I would try to make sense of Google Chrome using WE 7.2 on my
XP machine. Boy! Was I wrong!

Does anyone know how to get rid of Google Chrome off of my computer?
Add Remove doesn't do it either.

Then I thought to get on the web and look for info on how to uninstall
Google Chrome. But, when I invoked IE, I was faced with a Google
Accessibility Documentation page with which I am unable to search or
anything! Furthermore, I am not able to get rid of or change the IE
home page to my personal prefered home page. I tried getting rid of it
by choosing blank page in Tools, Internet Options but no go with that
either. I even tried invoking my personal home page from the run dialog
box which came up just fine. But when I tried to choose that page by
selecting, use current under Tools and internet options, the
very next time I went into IE, the same old useless google accessibility
documentation page came up again. I'm about ready to go sky diving
without a parashoot!

Please don't confuse the very useful google accessibility search page we
all have come to know and love, with this useless google accessibility
documentation page.

If you are able to help me to first get rid of google chrome, please,
please do so help me. I would be grateful to be able to use the
internet with some sence of normalcy once again.

Thanks,

Johnny

Broadcasting

Hi all. I'm looking to do some internet radio broadcasting and,
having
found that broadcasting directly through my computer or soundcard
makes my
microphone sound horrible (muffled, buzzing noise behind vocals,
popping
when turned on/off, etc), I'm looking for a suitable and accessible
4-channel mixer which I can use to channel my soundcard and
microphone. I'd
also like to have the option of plugging headphones into it so
that I can
hear the results of my work as it happens, and features such as
being able
to use more than one channel at once (such as talking over the
start/end of
a track) are also very important. Unfortunately I'm very short of
space, so
I need something which has good quality output but which is as
compact as
possible. I know this is quite a specific set of requirements, but if
anyone knows of such a model which is accessible for use by
someone with
total sight loss (no issues with seeing lights showing feedback
etc), I'd be
grateful to hear details. I'd also appreciate advice on any
adaptors which
I might need to help me plug 3.5 mm jacks and an XLR microphone
into such a
machine, as this is my first time of exploring this area of
production.

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice, Danny

I don't know if this info found you so I will try it again.

Clear kote makes a really good cd cleaning product
called Disk Restorer.
. I have heard of a product called CD Dr. I have used both Armerall and
tooth paste. I think cleaning a cd really good with dawn is a really good
solution. I have used the clear kote disk restorer on CDs that wouldn't even
boot up and it worked great restoring the Boot table of the cd.
If I fix a cd I make a coppy of the cd to back it up.
I would say that Tooth paste is the most unlikely method of cleaning a cd.
Armerall works but who knows how much dust you will trap on the cd at a
later time.
But I love the clear kote.
If you can't find a cleaning product at your local record store Give
this product a try.

DM-4 user's Manual

2010-10-09 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi Pat and all,

Pat, Love your loving podcasts!

I am wondering if someone knows where I could find an accessible,
senseable, straight forward user's manual for the Olympus DM-4.

I understand that you Pat have one that you had recorded? Since
there is a lot to the DM-4, I need a manual that is easy to
navigate. I would like to learn how to use it as a Daisy player and
also use it as a portable MP3 Bible.

Thanks for helping,

Johnny

Hi all,

Using my computer, does anyone know how to install a Bible with 1,246

sub-folders, - for example placing something like 6 books into 11
appropriately labeled folders.

Thanks for the help,

What Robert says will work if you have JAWS running in the system
tray. If not, when focussed on JAWS, you can press alt+U to go to
the Utilities Menu. The desired sound card should be in the Sound
Cards sub-menu. If it isn't, it might be turned off in BIOS and

you will need sighted help to turn it on.

Hi Joanne,

Did you ever get an answer for your questions below? I'm trying to

easier for the listner to jump around by tracks within the file. I'm
also having trouble figuring out how to use and adjust pause detection.

Please let me know what you have learned about this.

Thanks,

that can detect a longer pause, such as when a show ends, and just
cut the episodes into parts? Or does MP# Direct Cut have a feature
I'm unaware of? How do all of you split large files and make them
start and end episodes so well? Thanks. Kind of frustrated.

Re: Digital recording software

2010-05-17 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi Rob and list,

Thanks to everyone who offered me advice. I have since downloaded
GoldWave's latest version. I am also looking at their Multiquence
program. Is it accessible to WE users?

Johnny

At 11:15 PM 5/16/2010, you wrote:

Good evening Johnny and List.

I commend you to try Goldwave as a sound recorder and editing
package. The program is downloadable as a demo from http://www.goldwave.com/
This will enable you to experiment pretty thoroughly with the
software before you make a decision as to whether to buy it. It will
give you about 3 thousand keystrokes before you are prompted to buy
the licensed copy or to uninstall the demo version.

When I purchased Goldwave several months ago I paid $49 US which I
regard as a very good value for its abundance of sound editing and
reprocessing features. As for the learning curve, I had no prior
experience in producing digital audio before acquiring and learning
Goldwave which is very speech friendly with JAWS. For even better
JAWS interface I also commend you to get and install the Goldwave
JAWS scripts developed by Jim Grimsby. They are free and easily
installed by simply copying the 18 files into the JAWS settings
folder. The scripts come in a zip file. The Lame MP3 encoder is also
available on the Goldwave web site and will be needed if you want to
record in or change your sampling rate to 44.1 KHz, the sampling
rate required to enable production of an audio CD if you wish to do this.

Lastly, I have experienced the Goldwave help file to be very easily
navigable and easy to use as a learning resource.

If you use other screen readers such as Window-Eyes or SAM or NVDA I
must defer to those experienced users.

Have fun with the brave world of audio production, whatever audio
package you decide to get.

Best regards

into the following folder but MP3DirectCut says it does not find it:

C::\Program Files\MP3DirectCut\.
Please, someone nicely tell me what I am doing wrong, and then, tell
me how to install the Lame program into the appropriate MP3DC folder.

Thank you,

Help with Wave Pad please?

2010-04-28 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi folks,
I know I have asked this before, but, I'm wondering if Wave Pad Pro
offers the ability
to create tracks on a 40 mgb single mp3 file? The file is spoken
words that is about

an hour and 20 minutes time in length.

Yes! But are you talking about writing a script for an existing

Marking long MP3 files for skip-to points

2010-04-02 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi all,

I sort of asked this question before and someone told me to use Wave
Pad. But I am a real greenhorn at this stuff and if someone can help
me out with a step-by-step instructions on how to do this, I would be
very greatful. I have several 25 to 50 mgb recording that have no
skip-to points in them. How can I put several in at say, every 5
minutes so as to better navigate forward and backward through the mp3
audio files.

Thanks in advance,

Johnny

Re: Total Recorder Version 8.1 is Released

2010-03-07 Thread Johnny Angel!
This looks great and the price is nice! But with all of the choices
of the like, which recording and editing program is the easiest to
use for editing pre-existing long mp3 files and producing personal
recordings for radio broadcasting?

Thanks,

Johnny

Total Recorder version 8.1 is now available and can be downloaded from

that some of these changes only apply to the video edition of Total
Recorder:

Version 8.1 build 3900 (released on March 5, 2010)

You can adjust the playing volume and recording level using hot keys.
The recording state is displayed on Total Recorder's icon in the
Task Bar or System

Tray.
A new command line parameter supports the Jump to time feature.

Other minor enhancements.

In addition to the number of minutes, you can now specify the number
of seconds when

splitting a file based on time.
When using Pause Reduction, you can specify the duration of
preserved pauses after

the reduction.
The batch processing feature has been extended as follows:
Presets for your batch processing parameters can be saved and later reused.
Pause reduction is supported.
Batch processing of a folder or a list of files can be launched
through the command

line.
Improved time calculation during the background recording of VBR MP3 streams.

Other minor enhancements.

Support for multiple monitors. You can do the following:
Specify the monitor to be used when playing video in full-screen mode.
Specify the monitor from which a window or region will be captured.
Ability to perform background recording of FLV streams transmitted
using HTTP. This

allows you, for example, to background record video from YouTube.
Total Recorder can work with a wider range of audio streams in FLV files.

Re: MP3 help needed

2010-03-05 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi DJ,

Thanks for the great suggestion below. It looks like a really nice
program and it looks like it will work well with Window-Eyes
alright. However, I am wondering if you can at least point me in the
right direction in learning the Wave Pad program. I am given the
responsibility of producing multiple copies of sermons done in an mp3
format. The reason why I am interested in working with a program
like Wave Pad is that there are no track markers on any of the
original sermon CDs. I would like to be able to place track markers
say every5 minutes for convenient skip points for our
members. That's about all I need to be able to do right now. In the
future, I want to produce my own radio broadcast ready sermon
CDs. But that's another subject for sometime later on this summer.

But for now, I could use your help in at least getting me started in
the right direction in understanding Wave Pad fundamentals so I can
better format these weekly sermons for our members. Even if you
refered me to some beginners reading materials that would be
great. The key word here is the word - beginning. grin BTW,
all of the sermons are between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours in length.

Again thanks for any help,

Johnny

Vidio card help

2010-03-02 Thread Johnny Angel!

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to test whether or not a vidio card is working
correctly? One day I was told that my screen was black but the
monitor power light was on. So I connected the monitor up to my
laptop and hit the Fn F5 switch but no go. So, while I was
researching for a new monitor, I put a new 19 TV set on my desktop
and my wife set it to PC. All of the Windows start up screens came
up including the Windows XP Home logo. But then, after that went off
screen, the new TV screen also went black. It works just fine as a
TV. So, before I buy a new monitor, how can I further test my
desktop vidio card.

Can anyone please help?

Thanks,

Johnny

I ordered 2 blank NLS talking book cartridges from APH.org
today. I will use these cartridges to download talking books
and magazines from NLS online service. I don't like to use
USB flash drives.

Can any of you describe what the NLS talking book cartridges
look like and what kind of USB cable do I need to use to
connect this to my computer's USB port in order to transfer
the downloaded books. I understand it will show up as a
removable drive in My Computer or Computer area. No problem
there. No problem moving/copying it to the cartridge and then
inserting the cardtridge into the NLS Talking Book player. I
called my local library to see if the player was available
and it was. I got the advanced model. I heard a very good
podcast about this player on blindcooltech.com if you want to
learn more about it. Right now I am waiting for the unit and
never touch one of these cartridges.

hi,
At times I come across good audio books in the mp3 format.
typically they are named or numbered and stored in a single folder.
but which player is capable of playing these regarding to the following
criteria?
1. they should be played in the right alphanummerical order they are stored
in.
2. you should be able to pause your reading, end the program, and continue
from the right spot the next time you want to listen.
3. you should be able to increase speed, so you wont fall asleep before the
first mp3 has ended. grin

Is this possible, and what solution would you recommend?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year to all of you nice audio freaks out

typically they are named or numbered and stored in a single folder.
but which player is capable of playing these regarding to the following
criteria?
1. they should be played in the right alphanummerical order they are stored
in.
2. you should be able to pause your reading, end the program, and continue
from the right spot the next time you want to listen.
3. you should be able to increase speed, so you wont fall asleep before the
first mp3 has ended. grin

Is this possible, and what solution would you recommend?

Thanks in advance, and happy new year to all of you nice audio freaks out
there!

Brian

To all concerned,

I have sad news.
Richard passed on December 12, 2009 of a heart attack.
Some may know already, however, I'm sending this information to all of

It was so sudden with no warning.
I know Richard receives many emails each day and I want to inform all those
who contacted him.

I found the software that comes with the dm-520 pretty accessible. A few
things are slightly trickey but for the most part it works fine with Jaws
11. I'm only having trouble with the sound editor. Not sure how to select
regions with the keyboard.

The options dialog needs the Jaws cursor.

I can only speak for the DM520. Haven't actually tried the software cause
I've not needed it; Windows Explorer works just fine. But if I can find
it
I'll try it and get back to you.

I would go for the DM-520,
because you can split wave files and parcial erase them to! I think they
will phase out the DS-71 soon anyway.

Hi,

Can someone please talk about the cost f these items? I am looking
for a digital recorder that you can take anywhere, that has a good
sound quality, but that is also affordable. I am on a budget.

I would guess, in the absence of no hard comparative data, that the
audio
recording quality of the Pocket is quite a bit better than is the
Olympus
DS-71, which I do have.

I find the Olympus, across a range of external mics does have a
degree of
background hiss (preamp noise or circuit noise). This is the
