Bad humming while recording or using Skype.

2014-07-14 Thread Morey Worthington

Morning all.
This problem has probably been thrown around many times, but now my turn.
Using Windows7 HP, and Jaws 15 (newest bill).
When using external blug in microphone, or the built-in one on my
Dell all in one computer, when even using the sound recorder in
Windows, there is a bad humming noise in background. This occurs also
when talking in Skype or in chat rooms, which annoys others and me
also for it happening.

The computer is grounded with a surge protector.
The recording level is set at 70 percent, with 0 microphone boost.
As I said this happens when using headphone mic or built in one.
Any thoughts would be very appreciated. Thanks,
Morey Worthington
PS..I have tried headset microphone on another computer and it works
fine, and I also have tried this situation using external or the
built-in speakers.

I am lost.

Just curious about this problem.
Have you checked in the Program files to see if Windows Media Player
is in there?
If so, open the file and find the .exe file, press the applications
key, down arrow to make shortcut, click on that and it should put it
on desktop. Then click on that shortcut and see what happens.

If not in Program Files...gl.
Hope this thought you already know about and have tried.

Winamp and Lists

2014-02-13 Thread Morey Worthington

Morning all,
Using Jaws 15, Win7 HP and Winamp 5.65.
I have a folder with 10 .mp3 songs in it.
Winamp is my default player for these files.
How in the heck does a person get Winamp to play all the files from
top to bottom or bottom to top??
I have tried selecting with Alt/A, ctr/shift/home, ctr/shift/end, but
all I can get Winamp to play is either the top song, or the bottom one.

Any thoughts appreciated for this bothersome problem.
Thanks,

Files reversing from copying to burning

2013-04-23 Thread Morey Worthington

Hi all,
probably a simpple answer to this one.
I have a folder in which I keep .mp3 files I want to burn.
Using Burn Aware, I go to the said folder, select all the files with
control/A, and copy them to the clipboard. I then go the compulation
window and paste them into that window, and proceed to burn them.
After the burn is complete, I find that track 6 is now 1, and 1 is
now 2, and so on.

How may I take action to stop this from happening?

I am a blind person, but can give you the following information. My

on the jacks..1 pink which is the microphone, and 3 orange ones, the
one closest to the michrophone is the one I have the speakers pluged
into. In the properties of the recording devices there are 3
microphones listed and 2 line-ins listed. I have the microphone
listed for the Rocketfish is set as default. As I said , I can
record from the microphone.
Was wondering if the Microphone jack and the line-in jack are the
same. Think it could be, if I changed the default to the Rocketfish
default, what might happen if I tried that?? Can I blow the thing up??..lol

RocketFish Sound Card 5.1 Recording

2012-10-05 Thread Morey Worthington

Hi all,
Using Win/7 HP, Jaws 13 and RocketFish 5.1 Sound Card.
Looking at the computer from the back, 4 jacks, from right to left,
microphone, speakers, and 2 other jacks. I have tried using both to
record from a cassette player. I have gone to the recording
properties and have chosen the RocketFish Line-in as the default. Set
the volumn at 75, and as I said, have tried both empty jacks with no results.

Using Goldwave as the recorder, I can record myself from the microphone jack.
Any thoughts, or does this card not have any line in qualities??
Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Crackling sound in Win/7

2011-02-07 Thread Morey Worthington

Hello all,
Have a Acer Computer with 2g memory and a 500gg hard drive, and it
came with Win Vista.

The sound card was a on board one with Real Tech drivers.
I did a fresh install of Win/7 and updated to the newest bill of Jaws 12.
The audio drivers which were installed were downloaded form microsoft
for the audio drivers.
Now I have a whole bunch of crackling in speakers even when using
certain keys on keyboard. Using microphone also causes crackling, but
music such as MP3 has no problems except when pressing keys to get to it.
I went to the system files and tried updating the audio drivers, but
came back with message that proper drivers were installed.
If this is a sound card or driver issue, any thoughts? Or, what may
be a por what may be a proper new sound card for my problem??

I have the newest version of Winamp installed on a W/Vista machine. This

I tried re-booted computer, opened the Winamp Program first then tried
playing file...nothing. I have Winamp set as the default program for audio.
Any thoughts on what keystrokes I might have pressed to make Winamp not
work?
As I said, all works well in Media player. After clicking on a file in

as time remaining, paused, etc.

.MP3 or .Wav

2007-07-24 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Could someone please tell me the difference in sound quality, if any,
between the 2 subject formats?
I understand the difference in size of file between the 2.
Do most off the shelf CD/DVD players play both formats?
Thanks,

Winamp or WMP

2007-05-11 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all.
All I use either of these 2 players for is playing or recording CD's.
I am using an older version of Winamp and version 10 of WMP. Using the
criteria mentioned, is there any reason to upgrade any farther in either of
these programs?
NO...do not use their library system.

Download volume

2007-03-11 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Using one of the file sharing programs
I am using Win/XP home and Jaws 8.0. I have downloaded some songs which are
all instrumental and MP3's. A couple of them have a download volume which is
about 50 percent of some of the others.
While attempting to burn them to a CD, using the equalizer tab, should this
make all the volumes equal?
Using Nero 5.0 Express.
Any thoughts?

Hi Chris,
The first file I was downloading had a size of 111MB (not a missprint) and
was on it for over an hour and it was only at 24 percent. I wanted to go to

Re: Win/MX question

2007-01-06 Thread Morey Worthington
Hi Frank,
Below are a few tips about using M. The question I originally asked was how
to get from the download page back to the search list page. Here goes:
1. Hi Morey -

To get from the transfer window to the search window

Use the JAWS cursor to go to the top of the window where you click on the
graphic just to the left of the Search option. You will go to the Search
window, landing in the first Artist/title edit box. Turn off the JAWS
cursor and back space once to the search results list.

If I remembered the above correctly, you should be set to go.

Charlie
2. This information is how to select searched titles and get them to
download.

I use Windoweyes, but this is how I do it.

If I want more than 1 song from a single search I select all of the
songs before pressing download.

After I left click on any one of the results, I press (home) to go to
the top of the list.

Then, while continuously holding down the control key, I down arrow
through the list.

When I come to a song I want, I tap the spacebar. Remember I'm
keeping the control key down the entire time.

When I have worked my way through the list, I use the mouse key to
left click on download.

Bingo!

Hope this information helps you and others as it helped me.

Any thoughts on why opening it while in E-Mail message will not work?

But it is still not correct as per my way of thinking.

 Morey,

also, don't forget about the effect of the intrinsic acoustics of the
 space
in which you are listening. Hardly anyone's real world listening space is
ideally balanced. My desktop speakers are set to a perfect 50%, and sill I
hear the left speaker far more than the right. It could be the speakers
themselves, but, I suspect, it is more likely the way the sound reflects
 off
the wall behind my desk and all the other stuff on the desk.

Suggestion: Run a couple of test with headphones.

Labeling files before burning in Nero

The obvious.....Isn't

2006-08-30 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
I have asked a question before about sound coming out of 1 stereo desktop
speaker more than the other.
This is where the obvious, which isn't, comes in.
With the speaker balance set at 50 percent, a person should think that an
equal amount of sound would come out of each speakershouldn't they?
Well..If I take the balance down to less than 10 percent the stereo
sounds are now more evident. I can then raise the volume and all is better.
Is something wrong with set-up?
Or again, is the obvious, not obvious?
I have checked the input jacks for speakers and all appears well, and as I
said before, the volume control is on the base of one of the speakers.
Am I missing something where my thinking that 50 percent is equal?
Thanks,

Speaker volume problem

2006-08-27 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Using Win/XP, Jaws 7.1, and Sound Blaster Live.
Having a stereo balance problem.
In the play back settings the balance is set at 50 percent.
In the speaker settings, the setting is set at stereo desktop speakers.
I have gone through the test speaker utility, and it says all is working
properly.
Not really...
The sound comes out of right speaker very well, but not left. I have changed
the balance down to 30 percent on right and that seems to help a little, but
makes right speaker sound garbled.
Any thoughts on how to make sounds come out both speakers, in stereo, and at
the 50 percent levels?

Playing time of MP3

2006-07-04 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello,
Is there a chart of any nature that will tell me the playing time of the
many MP3 files that I have on my computer?
What I am after is, when I go into the properties of a file it says , as an
example, 22.1MB How long of a playing time is there for a MB of, or how long
for 10MB?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks,
Morey

Definitions and Hardware

2006-06-29 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
And you think you have heard them all.
Maybe I an not using the gray matter under my almost white hair enough, but
here goes.
Looking at the back of the computer, the line of adapter holes, meaning
speaker, microphone, line, etc., is this what is called a sound card?
I am using Sound Blaster Live as my audio program. If I unloaded Live, and
wanted to put another audio program, lets say Turtle Beach, would I have to
a new adapter piece in the back of the computer also, or does the hardware
piece stay the same?
Is that hardware piece called the sound card?
If not, what is it called.
I know this a real dumb question on my part, and I am sorry for that. Where
might a person get a list of proper terminology for such things as this?
Please answer off-list so as to not have too many listers just shaking their
heads.
Thanks,
Morey

Voice quality changes

2006-06-19 Thread Morey Worthington
Hello all,
Using Win/xp, Jaws 7.0, and Sound Blaster live.
After starting computer, the Jaws voice comes on as normal.
The next thing I do is go to the desktop. After pressing one key (any of
them) the voice volume drops about 50 percent, and stays that way until I
have to raise the volume manually.
If I went into Winamp to play a song, right after that the voice has very
much more Bass sound to it.
I have the latest drivers installed.
Any thoughts on how to have the sound card keep the volume and sound quality
the same all the time?
Thanks for any suggestions.
