Chromecast built-in - Audio

2017-03-07 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi!
For those who would rather the convenience of Chromecast built-in to a
speaker system then follow the link below.
advantages? No need to buy a separate Google Chromecast Audio unit, just
use the Google Home App to Setup your Chromecast Speakers and sstream
music etc to them by selecting the Speakers from the available
Chromecast devices in your App from your Phone or have Google Home
stream to that speaker etc.

Google Chromecast

2017-01-02 Thread Dane Trethowan
I received the chrome cast earlier today and I’m impressed!
The new unit is far smaller than the older Chromecast I had and will run on my
5.0GHZ Wi-Fi network whereas the older unit wouldn’t look at it.
I setup the Chromecast from the Google Home App on my iPhone but I’m going to
reinitialise the Chromecast down the track and try setup from my Samsung Galaxy
S6, I doubt I’ll have any difficulty doing all that.
So far I’ve been able to connect to Spotify and Tunein Radio Pro Apps on my
Samsung.
There are still some things I need to do like working out which Apps I’ll need
to stream video files from my network drives to the Chromecast.
I did a quick Google search on this topic and found something called Plex which
appears to do the job so I’ll try this later on and see just how accessible the
App is under Android.
I was hoping that Allcast might do the job but no luck, Allcast finds the
Chromecast and I can get to the files I wish to stream but when I double-tap a
file the file doesn’t play on the Chromecast.
On the IOS side it seems that the File Browser App will stream to the
Chromecast just fine for video files on my network so I’ll try that in coming
days.
I must say its a real buzz, I’m sitting at the Mac computer in my Den typing
this eMail whilst Tunin Radio Pro runs on the Galaxy S6 streaming Radio 2GB to
the Chromecast in the lounge connected to the Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound
receiver which in tern is connected to the Television.
I can control Tunein Radio with my voice on the Samsung Galaxy S6 using Google
Now, I’m getting a little tired of Warren More on 2GB so I think I’ll “Play
Radio 2Ch with Tunein Radio Pro” and listen to that instead.

halfwits in this world behind.

As I recall the Chromecast does have its own inteligence to a point, meaning that it

Why should you have an Airport Express with a Chromecast or is one better than

Hi!

Other list members would know that I've been using Airfoil for Mac and
Windows now for a very long time and I often post Blog entry's from the
developer here.

This entry is of particular interest to those who have a Google Chromecast
or Chromecast audio unit who are thinking of using Airfoil to stream to
their Chromecast product and why not! Airfoil already streams to Bluetooth
and airplay devices so streaming to Chromecast devices is a logical step
forward though - as you'll see in the entry - Airfoil isn't quite there yet
but at least Chromecast hasn't been forgotten and neither it should be as
its one of the ever expanding streaming methods of uaudio/video given the
price of the units etc.

Article: Chromecast coming to Australia - worth getting excited?

2014-05-18 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I bought one of these a month or so back so this was well before the pending
launch of the Chromecast in Australia, I bought it because of the high praise
the device was receiving on the technology shows I listen to and I haven't been
at all disappointed with my experience thus far which can only get better by
the sounds of things.

the article linked to below puts the device into perspective though I warn
those who have a visual impairment that accessibility could be an issue with
the Chromecast if you're thinking of controlling it from a computer, I've not
tried this so can't say for sure. I have tried controlling the Chromecast from
a Mac using the Chrome browser and from my Chromebox and I'm happy to say that
I found no major issues. If my experience is anything to go by, the best
device to use with your Chromecast is an IOS device such as an iPhone, iPad etc.

Even if you already have an Apple TV, the investment in an additional device
such as the Chromecast is certainly worth the while and I prefer to use it
these days more than my Apple tve, more controls available from my iPhone for
example.

Re: Have The Chromecast Up And Running

2014-04-18 Thread Brent Harding
Are there devices out there that don't break the bank that can convert HDMI
from the Chromecast to either audio via a 30-pin dock connector on a speaker
dock, or auxiliary line-in? I was thinking about switching over to an
Android phone and the Chromecast could stream some services, but for others,
I would probably have to find an Airplay or DLNA transmitting app to feed
the audio to that littlewireless to 30-pin receiver I can hook to my dock.
The TV has HDMI, but switching inputs is in a menu, and I'm not sure I could
get good quality sound out without running a long audio cable across the
room.

Subject line says it all, the Chromecast Set Top box is now up and running.

The setup was easy enough using the Chromecase App available from the IOS
Apps Store, there are Apps for the PC and Mac though I don't know how
accessible these are so what I'm about to describe is totally from the
perspective of an IOS user.

The setup involves you searching for the Chromcast which has its own Wi-Fi
network, you then join this on your iPhone, the Chromecast App follows the
progress.

From here you configure the Chromecast's basic settings such as the name,
the Wi-fi network the Chromecast should connect to and so on, further
setting adjustments can be made from the Chromecast App after the basic
setup is complete.

From the Chromecast App is where all the action takes place, its where you
discover Chromecast Apps such as Youtube, Rdio, Google Play and so on,
these are available from the Apps Store and The Chromecast will take you
straight to the appropriate Chrome Apps pages with the tap of a button.

So what is a Chromecast? Put simply its a stick similar to a USB memory
stick, one end plugs into a HDMI socket whilst the other plugs into a USB
port for power, in other words the Chromecast is specifically designed to
plug into the back of a TV for the specific purpose of converting that
device into a Smart Television.

There is little processing power in the Chromecast because your iPhone or
other device does all that and this gives the Chromecast a huge price
advantage over its competition, I picked one up for $40 Australian Dollars.

So far with the Chromecast I've explored and played videos through it to my
Denon AVR2113 surround-sound receiver which is connected via HDMI to my
Samsung Television, I've used the Rdio App to search for and play various
songs etc, the exploration will continue today as I'm anxious to try ABC
iView and BBC iPlayer Apps, today Good Friday presents the perfect
opportunity, Happy Easter to you all.

Re: Have The Chromecast Up And Running

2014-04-18 Thread Dane Trethowan
The Chromecast is really meant to plug straight into a Television, most
televisions that have come out in the last few years have HDMI ports on them.

When you talk of conversion then you start making things complex and its most
likely that such solutions will break your bank.

In short i'd forget the Chromecast if you're thinking of using it with
something else other than a Television, surround-Sound Receiver etc etc,
anything that has a HDMI input then the Chromecast will work with.

Are there devices out there that don't break the bank that can convert HDMI

phone and the Chromecast could stream some services, but for others, I would
probably have to find an Airplay or DLNA transmitting app to feed the audio
to that littlewireless to 30-pin receiver I can hook to my dock. The TV has
HDMI, but switching inputs is in a menu, and I'm not sure I could get good
quality sound out without running a long audio cable across the room.

Subject: Have The Chromecast Up And Running

Subject line says it all, the Chromecast Set Top box is now up and running.

The setup was easy enough using the Chromecase App available from the IOS
Apps Store, there are Apps for the PC and Mac though I don't know how
accessible these are so what I'm about to describe is totally from the
 perspective of an IOS user.

The setup involves you searching for the Chromcast which has its own Wi-Fi
network, you then join this on your iPhone, the Chromecast App follows the
 progress.

From here you configure the Chromecast's basic settings such as the name, the
Wi-fi network the Chromecast should connect to and so on, further setting
adjustments can be made from the Chromecast App after the basic setup is
 complete.

Put simply its a stick similar to a USB memory
stick, one end plugs into a HDMI socket whilst the other plugs into a USB
port for power, in other words the Chromecast is specifically designed to
plug into the back of a TV for the specific purpose of converting that device
 into a Smart Television.

Re: Have The Chromecast Up And Running

2014-04-18 Thread Salien Brown

Dane, I'm curious about something.

When using the newest Apple TV 3, it's quite easy for a visually
impaired user to set it up (Voice Over is enabled immediately when
you first turn it on.)

With the Google Chromecast, how easy is it for someone to set up
without sighted assistance?

Can you edit/control all options of the Chromecast through an IOS or
Android App?

Can you give a step-by-step walkthrough of what you did to get it up
and running?
