On two machines here, there are six groups of plug ins.
I don't know how to help in this case.

Hi


Under dsp/effect, there should be a section called media library.   I 
would hesitate to delete or remove any of these plugins unless you're 
absolutely sure you want to get rid of them.  The absolutely safest 
thing to do is to hit alt plus l and hide the media library window from 
appearing.  If you really want to get rid of the plugins though,  the 
safest one looks like it might be one called Nullsoft library, and 
another one called Online services.  But like I say i haven't removed 
these, so approach with caution.  I have no idea if winamp requires 
these plugins to function.  That's why I've just hidden the media 
library window.  Better to be safe than sorry.

in Winamp to stop after each song.

Regarding not playing the songs in order, there is a shuffle mode which is
toggled on and off by pressing the letter s.

Hello,  I subscribe to Sky F M  and how I change my listening settings is by 
going to Google and typing in Sky FM listening settings.  There you will 
find a page that is the listening settings page.

Check the player you want and go down to save settings button.
Not sure if this will work if you don't subscribe to Sky F M.

Dave,

On windows XP machines, the newer Winamp versions place the bookmark
file in the path documents and settings/primary user
configuration\application data\winamp.  Many peple set up owner as
their system administrator.  If your identity is something different,
use that identity.

go to winamp prefferences.

start at the top of the tree with the home key.

arrow down to file types.

tab through the options and select the all button

Now go back to the tree view, and arrow down to video.

Tab through these options and make selections as appropriate.

Hi Mate,

You probably unregistered the wa4jfw.dll file which is used by Jaws to talk
to Winamp directly.  Using the windows  run command try the following:
Regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wa4jfw.dll
All being well, the dll file should be registered properly and your jaws
volume functions etc should come back.

If you don't a way in the Winamp menus try to make a search for Winamp.bm 
and Winamp.bm8. Make a copy and place them in the same folder on the other 
computer. On my PC I found the files in C:\users\My 
name\Appdata\roaming\Winamp. If you can't find the files set Windows to show 
hidden files.

Good evening, John.
Do you activate the rip or burn menus before activating the burn or rip 
button? WMP seems to require the corresponding menus for whichever function 
you want to perform before WMP will allow the process to execute. As for the 
burn menu, MicroSoft probably wants to make sure you are taking a deliberate 
choice as to whether you want to burn an audio CD or a data CD.

I was running WMP 10, but I upgraded to WMP 11 thinking that would fix the

But when I try to rip a CD, I here WMP say, Windows Media player, close

What version of WMP do you have on your PC? I use Version 11 and it burns 
CD's just fine, although I usually have to locate files using Windows 
Explorer, then launch WMP via the WE context menu. I have not tried 
ripping with WMP so you'll have to look to one of our learned colleagues

Do you activate the rip or burn menus before activating the burn or rip 
button? WMP seems to require the corresponding menus for whichever 
function you want to perform before WMP will allow the process to execute. 
As for the burn menu, MicroSoft probably wants to make sure you are taking 
a deliberate choice as to whether you want to burn an audio CD or a data 
CD.

I'm also pretty sure that WMP supports fast forwarding and rewinding through
the menus, hot keys or using the slide bar on the interface. I don't
typically use WMP though, so I can't be sure. Does fast forwarding and
rewinding in WMP work for you on other file types? My biggest gripe with WMP
is that I can't figure out how to control the amount you jump in a file. I
think it's based on a percent of the overall length of the file.

be able to move forward in a file or track)..but don't believe that even

That's one reason why I don't use WMP.
Winamp has that media player beat in that aspect and respect.
I use to use WMP for ripping and burning CD's.
But some how, something in WMP got broken because it won't rip or burn CD's 
anymore.
I use Winamp for the burning of CD's, but I'd like to know where the CD 
ripper is in Winamp.

If you can tell me that, you'll be a big help to me!

Wow, I just brought up WMP 11 for the first time in a while, and I can't
play anything with it! I tried a few MP3 files, it said it was playing, but
I didn't hear a thing! I'll have to hit Google or Bing to see how to repair
this. Even though I hardly ever use WMP, I would like to have a working copy
on my system.

Sorry John, but I can't help you. I know you can rip CD's with Winamp, but
I've never done it myself. I know the Pro version gives you higher ripping
speeds. I still use WMP for that. I used to use CDEX before I started
leaning on WMP for ripping my CD's. Maybe others on this list can help you
out.

I installed this very same version of Winamp just a couple of weeks ago. 
Before going any further, did you follow the JFW installation instructions 
from within the jaws help files under the topic of Winamp? I'm thinking you 
did not associate any files to be played with Winamp. The important step is 
to use right arrow to expand the list of file extensions to be played by 
Winamp. Also try the obvious such as closing winamp then going to an MP3 
file and pressing enter. Write back and we'll go from here.

If Winamp is opening, it's clearly not a file associations issue, 
otherwise Winamp would not open. My guess is that your sound has been 
muted at some point. If you're using JAWS, try alt+control+slash to set 
your volume to 100%. I'm not sure what the equivalent command is with 
other screen readers' scripts.

thank you, but this only helps, when jaws is correctly configured for 
winamp.
it's just that I remember that once a special toolbar or something had to be 
enabled to make jaws be able to see the various volume and panning controls.

Well, most of what you want are just Winamp's own hotkeys and will work 
whether you use Jaws or anything or no screen reader at all.  Up and 
Down arrows control voluneand left and right arrow keys control pan.  If 
Jaws is running the correct script everything should speak and there are 
a few extra keys that will set the paning to different values.  Open the 
Jaws main window, open file menue and go down to Manage Program 
Settings.  In there you should see Winamp if you've made any change at 
all to it.  Make sure the checkbox for Winamp is checked and it should 
run those settings when Winamp is in focus.  And Winamp does need to 
have focus for any of the Jaws settings to work.  You can run Winamp in 
the background while doing other work, but you can't control it unless 
it has focus.  That could be the problem.  Good luck!

stuff in the registry to solve some other problems.

but well i'll try to check this thing in jaws.
and you have a serious problem when you want to pan exactly to center with

Hi Stewart,
Right-click in JAWS is number-pad star, then arrow up to properties, and find 
the URL field with the arrow keys once you've pressed enter on the properties 
menu item. Then go to the start of the URL by pressing the home key, then press 
shift+end to select it. Press control+C to copy it to the clipboard, then go 
int an email or document and paste it by pressing control+V

Captchas Re: Winamp Question

I know this is a bit late, but something Chris said got me thinking...I 
notice Winamp's forums are powered by vBulletin.  I've also noticed, for 
about six years now, the ANYTHING powered by vbulletin has the captcha code 
associated with sign-up.  I've found three lists (two Opie and Anthony fan 
lists and the Orbitcast forums) who are willing to assist blind/visually 
impaired users in signing up.  However, most of the vBulletin powered lists 
don't give an email address to contact the forum owner or an audio alternate 
to the captcha.  So, what I'm wondering is, is this something each forum 
owner can set up on his/her own, or is this something whoever is in charge 
at vBulletin would have to set up for each forum?

The first time I ever ran into it was signing up for the message board at 
megadeth.com back in like July of 2001.  Part of me thinks the Winamp guys 
would be willing to add an audio alternative, but it makes me think maybe 
vBulletin's software just isn't set up to handle such things, and that they 
need to be made aware of the problem and asked/nudged to fix it.

You can find many more hot keys by pressing insert+W while in winamp.

An external mixer is always the best way.  If you're doing this for
live concerts and productions, that's all you need.  You can feed the
PC into the mixer and control the volume of both the microphone and PC
right through the mixer.  If you're doing it live on the net, you'll
just need an additional connection from the output of the mixer to the
input of your computer's sound card, then a little creative tweaking
of the volume settings so as not to cause a feedback loop.  Apply some
external sound processing (like a compresser/limiter) or some internal
(like a DSP plug-in) and you're good to go.

hi.  The short answer is, if you have the free version of Winamp, you 
can only convert to WMA and Wav, as far as I know.  MP3 and AAC plus 
are available with the pro version.
At least, this was true last I checked.

hi Michael
  to turn on the equalizer and hear the differences in the different 
presets, hit the letter n. Note that you must first have any of the 
Winamp windows open and in focus to do this, otherwise it obviously won't work.
Also, more importantly, you should upgrade to the most recent 
screenreader friendly version, which is version 5.13, available at
http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp513_full.exe
That's a direct link to the file.  While it's not the most recent 
version, it's just as usable as previous versions were, and version 
5.13 also fixes a major security bug.Version 5.2 most definitely 
is still screenreader friendly,  accept in the case of the newest 
version of Winamp library, which is a big hastle to screenreader 
users.  If you'd still like to give it a try though, you can get 
version 5.2 from:
http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp52_full_emusic-7plus.exe

It sounds like you're almost asking for voice recognition. Now, if the 
book were being done in DAISY, all of this would be available to you. But 
the feature you wanted regarding continuing where you left off is 
available in Winamp if you are a JAWS user. Otherwise, I'd recommend a 
portable MP3 player with resume capability.

Wait you can use the jump to time feature in Winamp even with Window-eyes. 
You cn't search for a specific word though, but you could go righ to it with 
the jump command in Winamp, I do it all the time.

Yes, but you can't enter a word to search for in an audio file without 
some pretty elaborate voice recognition. And the nice thing about a time 
marker is you can have a hundred files and don't need to memorize a 
hundred time positions to jump to. Winamp should really implement this.

I'm not talking so much about voice recognition, just word recognition like 
in a word document searching for the word counseling for example. I'll try 
the markers Is it only in individual tracks and do they save for future 
searches? I am very new with winamp except for listening to music. Thank

designed to be used with music, not the spoken word like the Daisy format.

In Winamp, pressing M while a track is playing or paused will place a time 
marker at that point in the track. Alt-shift-M will bring up a list of the 
time markers that have been set in the current track, and allow you to jump 
to any one of them.

In my experience, after one has opened the library with alt-l and tabbed
once to the library button, one must press the spacebar on the library
button before one can arrow down to the remove missing media, add media to 
library, or other functions.

But, in any case, if all one ultimately wishes to do with the library is to 
scroll through a list of the media files already on one's computer and 
select what to play from there, it is far simpler, I find, to ignore the 
library, all together. Instead, from the winamp main window, press shift-l. 
One is then presented with a tree view of one's hard drive. browse the 
treeview till you come to the folder in which you store your media. You can 
click on the folder to load the entire contents of the folder into a 
playlist, or you can continue to browse your music folder till you find the 
particular subfolder containing just what you want to play. If all you want 
to play is a single track, not a folder full of tracks, start the whole 
process with the l (rather than shift-l) command, and browse the slightly 
different interface till you find the track you want to play, and click on 
it.

In either of these ways, you can ignore the continually losing focus and 
difficult to negotiate library, all together.

 1. Alt l opens the library.
 Tab once to remove missing files from library.
 Down arrow here and you will come to add media to library--press enter.
 In this section a list of songs will likely appear and it may be the last
 song you have played or a folder list of recently played songs. Just
 ignore these.
 You want to be in the folder where your music is stored. In my case, that
 folder is called mp3.
 This section is like a tree view so use your arrow keys until you have
 highlighted your music folder then when you have found it, do a right
 arrow to open the folder.
 At this point, press enter.
 If you have done everything correctly and if I haven't forgotten any
 steps--all the selections in your music folder should be added to your
 library.
 This does not mean that all the songs are duplicated again and that you
 are using up gigabytes of disk space.
 Adding your music files to library simply creats a list of your music
 files that you can access from your Winamp library.
 If you have your songs recorded in such a way that they are listed by
 artist, album, song title and track, you will have a very nice view of all
 your music from within your library.
 You will be able to see a list of all the artists, albums or song titles
 you have and each in a separate list.
 There is a bunch more info too but you will see that for yourself.
 You will also be able to cue your songs and I believe make a play list but
 I for some reason have not done this yet though I keep intending to--I
 really must as a little experiment.

place you in an edit field into which you can type the search string you 
want to find. However, it will search only the subsection of the library 
highlighted on the treeview that is one tab back from the edit field. And, 
this treeview is very difficult to negotiate in the new version of Winamp. 
JAWS continually loses its focus when you tab away from this treview and 
back to it. You continually have to use the JAWS cursor to find this tree 
view once again, and route pc to JAWS. This is the major reason (but not the 
only one) why I think the Winamp library is more trouble than it's worth.

I'll try to talk you through it.

In my experience, after one has opened the library with alt-l and tabbed
once to the library button, one must press the spacebar on the library
button before one can arrow down to the remove missing media, add media to 
library, or other functions.

But, in any case, if all one ultimately wishes to do with the library is to 
scroll through a list of the media files already on one's computer and 
select what to play from there, it is far simpler, I find, to ignore the 
library, all together. Instead, from the winamp main window, press shift-l. 
One is then presented with a tree view of one's hard drive. browse the 
treeview till you come to the folder in which you store your media. You can 
click on the folder to load the entire contents of the folder into a 
playlist, or you can continue to browse your music folder till you find the 
particular subfolder containing just what you want to play. If all you want 
to play is a single track, not a folder full of tracks, start the whole 
process with the l (rather than shift-l) command, and browse the slightly 
different interface till you find the track you want to play, and click on 
it.

In either of these ways, you can ignore the continually losing focus and 
difficult to negotiate library, all together.

 Anita, to add media to library, do the following
 1. Alt l opens the library.
 Tab once to remove missing files from library.
 Down arrow here and you will come to add media to library--press enter.
 In this section a list of songs will likely appear and it may be the last
 song you have played or a folder list of recently played songs. Just
 ignore these.
 You want to be in the folder where your music is stored. In my case, that
 folder is called mp3.
 This section is like a tree view so use your arrow keys until you have
 highlighted your music folder then when you have found it, do a right
 arrow to open the folder.
 At this point, press enter.
 If you have done everything correctly and if I haven't forgotten any
 steps--all the selections in your music folder should be added to your
 library.
 This does not mean that all the songs are duplicated again and that you
 are using up gigabytes of disk space.
 Adding your music files to library simply creats a list of your music
 files that you can access from your Winamp library.
 If you have your songs recorded in such a way that they are listed by
 artist, album, song title and track, you will have a very nice view of all
 your music from within your library.
 You will be able to see a list of all the artists, albums or song titles
 you have and each in a separate list.
 There is a bunch more info too but you will see that for yourself.
 You will also be able to cue your songs and I believe make a play list but
 I for some reason have not done this yet though I keep intending to--I
 really must as a little experiment.

Hi Anita!  I don't know if this helps, but I have Winamp 5.1.  When I did 
the alt l, it took me to a prompt that says, Add media to library!  It 
then says, You have 0 media added to your library.  Would you like to add 
media?  Then it takes you to where you can press enter on i  you want to. 
I hope this helps.  If not, maybe others might have further suggestions!
