Converting Midi Files?

2013-04-24 Thread Dean Masters
Is there a program that will convert midi files to .wav or mp3? It seems
like I had one in the past that would do this but don't remember what it
was.

thanks,

Re: Winamp MIDI Files?

2013-01-07 Thread Larry
Howard, are you sure your midi synth setting isn't muted in the
volume control? If you've successfully played midi files in other
players, then this suggestion is of course worthless. Just a thought.

When I hit on a .mid file, Winamp starts and shows that time is
elapsing; just no sound coming out. I'll try the other plug-in and
see if it works.

I so far can't answer your question, as mine appears to play .mid
files ok. Just wondering though: is there any specific reason you
have your output plugin set to wave out instead of direct sound?
My understanding was that the latter was supposed to supercede the
former in most cases, but I'm not really sure why. Other than my
default plugin, my setup is just about exactly the same as yours,
down to the OS and everything.

Re: Winamp MIDI Files?

2013-01-07 Thread Howard Traxler
Thanks Larry. There is no setting for midi in my volume control. I did get
it to play after digging around in the sounds and audio section of the
control panel. I don't know which setting I changed, but now it plays. Now,
only a minor annoyance, midi file start playing at a lowered volume. The up
arrow brings it back up. This does not happen on mp3 files. I also changed
winamp's plug-in to nulsoft direct sound output which still lets it play. I
found that the fading on pause and seek, which was what I didn't like about
the plug-in, could be turned off in the plug-in configuration.

Now I'm happy again. Thanks to all who helped.

Unless your site is willing to host tens of thousands of MIDI files, it

Re: Midi files

2008-03-02 Thread Curtis Delzer
Hey Bruce, speaking of midi files, there was a version of the house of the
rising sun which really was neat, I wonder how I can find versions of that
song to listen too? A man who ran a web site, named Tom, I think, way back
in 1996 or 1997 had that on his web site, and at the moment I can't think of
Tom's last name -- oh hey, it was called the out post, and he had some
neat midi files there when you changed to different parts of his site. He's
gone now, for a few years unfortunately, but it's funny how songs haunt a
person, not that there's anything particularly special about that song, it
is the midi version he had I wish I could get a copy of. :)
Thanks Bruce. Anyone else remember the out post web site?

Re: editing midi files?

2006-05-17 Thread meared Reta
Hi, Rusty,

I think, you can use a program called Best Midi To Mp3 to convert your midis
to MP3 or .wav files, and edit them with Goldwave Soundforge or with any
software of your choice.
to get more descriptions and download the program, go to:

Subject: editing midi files?

 Hi Folks,

I have some dot mid files on my system, beatles songs,
standards, etc, and I'd like to use parts of some of these as ringing
tones on my cell phone. How can I get rid of space, i.e. silence, at
the beginning of I want to hold your hand.mid, or how could I take
the first line of 'good day sunshine.mid and use just that? I don't
think this is a job for sound forge or gold wave, so, is there a
program that allows this kind of editing?

Any help greatly, as always, appreciated.

Re: problem recording midi files.

2005-12-19 Thread Tyler Wood
I did that; it worked. My file, however, was in .wav format. It was 700 MB!
It was around 30 seconds long, or at least that's how long I recorded, just
for a test. It was at 1311 KB/s.

Alison, it really sounds like you're not setting something correctly in

Allison! I suspect to get those MIDI files recorded you want to do the
following:

! Press windows-r to open the Run dialogue
! Type sndvol32 /r
! Press Enter
! Tab over to Wave and be sure it's checked and that it's volume is half way
up or more

Now play your MIDI file and try to record it. Did it work?

Subject: Can't play midi files, trouble shooting help requested

Hello,
The subject line states the problem. On my desktop running XP home with 512 megs of ram, I am
unable to play midi files. Although I prefer to play them with Winamp, Windows media player 10
is launched when clicking on midi files, but nothing plays. I have also tried bringing up
Winamp and then loading the files, but they still do not play although the midis do appear to
load. I get the same result with media player classic.

These same midis play just fine in Winamp on my desktop running 98 S E. So I ask that
knowledgeable persons on this list suggest some trouble shooting steps as I really want midis to
play on the XP machine. Although I would prefer to play them with Winamp, I don't care that
much which player plays them, just as long as they play.

Thanks.

Re: Midi Files?

2005-01-21 Thread Jerry Richer
Ibby! I convert MIDI to WAV by playing the MIDI file and recording the
output with Sound Forge. MIDI and WAV are totally unrelated file types.
Please find following two posts I wrote to this list in the past.

there are programs to convert MP3 and WAV files to MIDI but as I
understand it they are very inaccurate. MIDI is nothing like MP3 or WAV.
The formats are totally alien to each other. MP3 and WAV files are audio
files but MIDI files are series of instructions telling a sound module of
some sort what instrument to play, what notes to play, for how long, how
loud etc. Converting an MP3 or WAV file to MIDI would be analogous to
unbaking a cake and putting all the ingredients back into their storage
bins. You'd even have to uncook the eggs and put them back into their
shells.

Sequencing is the process of recording, editing and playing back music
instructions (Musical Instrument Digital Interface, MIDI) that tell a MIDI
instrument what to play. MIDI instructions include such information as what
note to play, how hard to play it, how long to play it, when to play it etc.
In music production it's like the difference between having a cake and
baking a cake. When you play music live you have a cake. When you play
music through MIDI you are creating a cake in real time from the recipe.
You can always change the recipe and bake another cake but when the cake is
done you can't undo it and change it.
MIDI information can be entered through a computer keyboard, voice
commands, through a MIDI musical instrument in real or step time or through
a scanner scanning a musical score.
Through sequencing one can construct an entire musical score by
themselves. Many use sequencing as a method of providing virtual musicians
in a band. Many people now perform in clubs and restaurants with a
sequencer as their only other band member. They might play a guitar and
sing but what you hear is guitar, voice, bass, piano, horns etc.
To learn everything you'd ever want to know about sequencing, join the
MIDI-MAG list where blind musicians discuss the accessibility of music and
audio production equipment and software. To join send an email to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and in the body of the email include the line
subscribe midi-mag first-name last-name.

I'd try a program called midi to wave converter. That one will do it for
you. Sorry I don't have a url but it can be found easily enough. That's One
choice. You also could use such a program as Recall Pro from
http://sagebrush.com as that program will allow you to select your midi
synth and record in to recall pro.

they're not too easy to come by these days as most players or
composers of MIDI files these days want a small fee. If you're
willing to pay a bit? Then yep! you can get thousands.
I have a whole heap of MIDI archives here which N can send to you if
you're interested.

RE: editing and converting midi files

2004-05-07 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Any regular sequencer program will change the tempo of the song.
As for mp3, that depends on your midi setup. If you are using any external
synth or module, you need to play back the song and record it ither to the
computer or other external device.
If you are only playing the midi file through your sound card, use total
recorder or recall pro to record the file.

Nektarios.

Subject: editing and converting midi files

Hi all!
I'm singing at a concert in a few weeks and I am using karaoke music. I
disliked the one karaoke file that came on the CD so I found a good
quality midi file that I liked better. The only problem is that it's too
fast. Is there a program out there that will allow me to slow down the file?
And when I've finished with that, how do I convert it to mp3? Thanks!
Allison
