Ah thanks, I just sent an email about Linux on Debian, but now I saw this. I see there is a Debian stable package, so, has anyone tried a recent Debian stable from the autobuild? Should I just download the latest one? ~David On 1/25/07, Frank Barknecht [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hallo, Max

[PD] Pure Data on Linux (Debian) - what should I install?

2007-01-25 Thread David Powers
Hello everyone ... SO, I finally got Linux installed on an old laptop (Debian stable distribution). Or to be more precise, my girlfriend got it installed, and I sat around drinking beer, smoking spliffs, and telling her how great she was, while she recompiled the kernel. I would, of course, be

I just talked to a trusted friend who beta-tested Vista and isn't particularly biased (he uses plenty of audio apps on win$) ... He did say to avoid installing Vista at the moment, especially for audio. Your performance would probably take a hit. I know this is slightly OT, but probably worth

Yes, please post the patch, Andy. This is something I've wanted to do for some time. I got something nice with an additive synth made up of individual [osc~] objects, by constantly shifting the levels of the harmonics. Even doing random harmonic values generated pretty cool results. But, doing

Hi, I believe this is a known bug, Chris Clepper had helped me fix this problem actually with GEM. I just made a some simple [pixTextureHack] that loadbangs the mode stuff so everything will work, but I put it in manually wherever I had a pix_texture. Only problem was, I forgot about it and got

Well, the current PD Gui stuff is not adequate for pro performance situations as far as I'm concerned. Even a small number of Gui elements visible will totally destroy the audio and cause severe dropouts, in my personal experience. And from what I hear this may be true on more than one OS... So

Clicks are most often CPU / buffer related problems, however. On my laptop, for instance, I have to disable the wireless card if I want to use even a very simple PD patch and not get clicks, for example. I have to disable it for using other audio apps, also - but the problems in PD are always

Unfortunately, MaxMSP does not run that well on Windows. I think I just recounted how PD+Gem runs a webcam on PC, that won't run with Max, for example. So without Pure Data, one is really stuck with programs like Reaktor and Synthedit on PC. (I highly recommend Synthedit, btw, one can develop a
