In Elements 10, I can EXPORT an .xmp sidecar file edit it with, say, MSWORD. However, I then cannot get the edited file to overwrite the original. The IMPORT function doesn't seem to work. If I Re-EXPORT the original, the edited version is overwritten the edits are lost.Any ideas?

Just a guess, but I would imagine that there are only certain fields which are editable and perhaps they must be done from within the program (Elements) to prevent falsification of data. For example, someone could try to change the Copyright information after the fact to claim work that was not

Alan, I am not sure how exactly you are saving the file in MS-Word, but unless you take special measures (save as), it saves it as a Word document which is very different from the original .xmp format (which is essentially an XML). You can experiment saving it as Text-Only. But then there
