In Elements 10, I can EXPORT an .xmp sidecar file edit it with, say,
MSWORD. However, I then cannot get the edited file to overwrite the
original. The IMPORT function doesn't seem to work. If I Re-EXPORT the

I am not sure how exactly you are saving the file in MS-Word, but unless
you take special measures (save as), it saves it as a Word document
which is very different from the original .xmp format (which is
essentially an XML).
You can experiment saving it as Text-Only. But then there
