Walt, Reduce your body count by 1. Get rid of the Promaster zoom. For general purpose shooting, the stock 18-55 will do fine. Then spend the extra money on 2 lenses: A50/2.8 macro DA35/2.4 come to mind first. Unless you want sky-scapes, any very wide lens will be disappointing, imnsho. Perhaps

I have one of the large Logan mat cutters. It works well for me and $50 for one is a very good price. Grab it if it is still available. The one thing you will need to do is use pins to mark your cutting start/stop positions. And get a piece of cardboard to experiment on to get your technique down.
