My house and studio took a major lightning strike on Thur afternoon. Lots of
physical damage to the studio and lost a lot of electronics.
My destop computer, barely a year old, lost the monitor and the ethernet
portion of the motheboard. I have tried installing a 10/100 card but so far
I cannot
I put on 3 pounds just looking at the photo.

I downloaded the new firmware and my camera will not recognize it. Have
tried with 3 different sd cards and none will work. The computer shows the
file on the card but when I insert into camera, hold the menu button and
power up, it just shows the old filmware version that is installed.
DUH !
I was putting the file inside a directory there that normal formatting
creates! Now why didn't I remember that from the last time. That much older
for oldtimers to take greater effect!!

On my computer (PC, XP Pro) I downloaded the file (Save, not Run) to the
desktop. Then I double click the new icon on the desktop, Run, and it
extracts to the two files.
Then I plug the cardreader in with the formatted sd card in place. On my

They look good to my eye. I have the Sigma DG non Super and it works really
well on my istDL, but leaves a lot to be desired on my K10D. However, I did
find that if you switch the camera to manual mode and the flash to the mL or
mH it works pretty good by simply adjusting the f/number until you

I found the color contrasts and patterns looked interesting. Had to pump up
the contrast and color curves to get them to stand out, so they are a little
over saturated from normal.

I have the 1800 and a friend has the 2400. I feel the glossy results are
equal. He seems to prefer the 2400 matte stuff.
I am extremely pleased with the color results I get and even more pleased
with the BW's. However, I have found only a couple of matte papers that

I got the copy of LR this AM from Amazon.
I have loaded it on both computers and have started the long road to
learning. Have been reading the Martin Evening book as well as the videos
that Godfrey linked me to.
Already I know it will be a good program because I have made prints
successfully.

There is a smallish camera/rare coin shop here in Orlando that has a 500mm
f/5 Takumar mounted to a black Spotmatic. It sits on a largish tripod next
to the front window. Folks look through it at stuff across the street.
I asked the owner one time if it was for sale. He scratched his head and

ended up wandering around the backyard with the istDL and the 100mm Cosina
Macro. I was quickly taken by just how small the DL is compared to the K10,
now fitted with the Battery Grip. However, I still lean toward the K10
I just checked at Amazon.com and they still have it for less than 200.00. I
also have a 25.00 credit from them, so sounds like a good deal.
Even better, there was a copy (Used) for 20.00!! It is the educational
version, so is there any rub there in registering the package once it is
installed?
How many miles on the engine?
I would strongly suspect leakage past the valve guides, where it gets
burned. Have someone check the exhaust as you crank it up after sitting
overnight. If you get a puff of blue smole it's a good indicator of bad
valve guide seals and/or worn valve guides.

Sadly I report the passing of our beloved Himalayan, Amelia. Her kidneys
have been failing for the past year and she has had a couple minor seizures
in the past. Last evening she had a terrible bout of 9 or 10 and the
Potassium meds we gave her were not working.

used a tripod. I find it best to use a normal angle FL, ie, not an extreme
WA as the distortion in the corners can lead to problems. If you do us a

Thanks P.J., I managed to get a photo uploaded, but with great difficulty.
It seems that no matter what I did when resizing a pic from the K10 that was
shot in JPEG Fine down to the required pixel size and then saving with a new
name, the file size was just barely exceeding the 75k size limit.
When I was trying to find a source for the Pentax AC adapter for my istDL, I
ran across a device that has a cigarette lighter adapter (12vdc) into a
controller that allowed the voltage to be changed from 2.5v to 12v in
various steps. The output end had changable plugs with various adapters to
This guy was very tame and allowed me pretty close with the 100mm f3.5
Macro. iso 400, f/10, around 1/60th with SR on. His head is slightly soft or
else he moved. The macro is proving to be useful but I need to hone my
skills more.

Thanks for the input Bob. We have both types here where I live, but I have
noticed that the brown one is seemingly taking over by population. They seem
very tame and especially when it is cold, like mid 30's, you can actually
stroke them on the back and they won't move or try to escape.

info. There is only a pic and tells what it does. Nothing about operation. I
seem to recall some queries in the past about operation, etc. Are there any

There is something of a magenta cast which could
be corrected easily.
Yeah, easy enough for you to say... I almost got fired from a job as a
color printer shortly after I retired from the Navy. It seems everything I
put out was about 15 to 20 M! I was called the guy with rose colored
Simon, any lenses you purchase for the K100 MUST have the Pentax K-mount.
The Konica AR mount definatelt will not fit. The Vivitar might, only if it
is the PK mount. Whenever you look on the internet, make sure the lens is
specified to be for the Pentax K mount cameras.

Never had that problem with my 1800. It's pretty new, less than 6 mos, and I
haven't printed a lot on it, but it worked great from the very first print.
