Congrats Dave.
We're planning a trip to Sydney in a couple of months so I'm starting
to think about digital.
At first I thought about getting a little compact for the sake of
portability, but when I looked at prices I thought it'd be better to
put the money towards a K10D.
Now I think I want to get both

Maybe consider the W30, which is the waterproof one. This gives you
some extra capability, i.e., camera to take into a messy situation, as
opposed to just a little camera. I took a Canon DS700 (6MP) on a recent

cards. Leica-designed lenses and reasonable manual controllability.
If you want high ISO

I have an A10 that I use as my pocket camera. The A30 adds a couple
additional megapixels, face detection and probably more important, a
Tv mode.
Here's a link to some sample snapshots, these are straight from the camera:

My wife used to have an A10 - finally lost it. I replaced it with the
A30. From a usage perspective, the A30 is much quicker in operation.
If that is the basic model you are considering, I would opt for the
A30 over the A10. One big thing to remember is that these are little
cameras and will
Thanks to all for the info and advice. I'll have a closer look at things
tonight (me? webmailing from work? no sir...).
I was hoping to stick with Pentax but if their offerings don't compare so well
then I'll have to look at other brands - as long as I can use the same cards as
the K10D I'll

The other option was Perth and I thought I may as well save some flying time
and see the Opera House.
Unfortunately the dates work
