Well, Godfrey, I don't know what kind of adapter Cotty bought. I've read from few people on Russian forums who bought cheap Chinese adapters, that things such as incorrect infinity were being observed. I am not saying that Cotty should be feared or panicking. In fact, I think he is not that easily

Okay folks here's a question I'll throw to the floor. I've finally been able to mount a fully manual wide angle lens onto my Fuji X-E1 and I was testing with it this afternoon. For the curious, this is what the combo looks like: http://pdml.posthaven.com/fuji-and-wide BUT if I try and 'zone'

One factor: Many of the less expensive mount adapters allow the lens to focus past infinity, an inexpensive way to ensure that all lenses CAN focus to infinity by making the adapter+camera registration just a little shorter than nominal. The idea seems to be that since most users are likely to

Wrong. Format ALWAYS influences apparent DOF. Your statement is a bunch of pixel peeping hooey promulgated by experts who have never made a photograph. If this were true, all of the BS about wanting full frame sensors to get shallow DoF is wrong .. And the theory is demonstrably, easily

Would an incorrect lens flange-to-sensor measurement create the zone- focus issue above? Yes, precisely. From your description it sounds as if the adapter is too thick and is not quite reaching infinity focus. This can be masked in many cases because stopping down can extend DOF sufficiently to

I've seen this article brought up over and over again on several lists in the past two weeks. To me, the most salient statement in it is this: What Does It Mean in the Real World? Like a lot of laboratory testing, probably not a lot. Adapters couldn’t all stink or people wouldn’t use them.
