You can tell LR to discard the previews and save some space, or tell
it to discard them after a suitable unused period of time.
But if you prefer Phase One, well, why not just stick with it?

Perhaps we could make catalytic converters a PUG theme.

I don't know about the USB drive issue ... my external drives are
connected with FireWire and Lightroom can import a folder of data
from them without any problems. I imported the two 70Gbyte
directories of photos -- 2003 and 2002 -- from my archive drive,
handled it without a hitch.
You're missing something.
Import gives you the choice of working on files from an existing
location, or of using them in Lightroom's own internal database. I
don't see much advantage to the latter. But once you've imported your
files it's not fundamentally any different from using any other File
as I rarely print.

Hi James
I can't answer all of those questions as I've only been playing with Lightroom
and haven't used it as seriously as others on the list. I'm also still using
the Lightroom beta - delaying installing version 1 until after the beta expires.
Anyway - I have no problems importing from my
I haven't used Lightroom yet, but it sounds like it works in much the
same way as ACR. You import a group of files with Bridge or Browser,
convert a file, then export it either to Photoshop or to a folder
where it's saved.

Brian,
If I were you, I'd download and go with the Lightroom 1.0 30 Day Free

and runs faster, also many features have been enhanced or changed
into better ways of doing things.
The tutorial videos I mentioned are also very
I am not sure but I think you misunderstand what Auto Import is
supposed to do.
The concept is to define a place where you're going to drop files
that you want Lightroom to work with. Lightroom, once started and
assuming that you've set up the Auto Import facility appropriately,

Thanks, Godders
I was trying to maximize my free time with Lightroom (being the basic
cheapskate that I am).
Anyway, I've taken your advice and installed Version 1. I'll give it a good
trial over the next few weeks. Thanks for the tutorial links.
Cheers
