There are those cases where you almost feel guilty for getting something
*that* cheap. Had one recently where, on top of it all, the seller

Well, they're big, and they seem to be everywhere, and the damned blue
herons seem to be camera shy, at least in New England.

oh that one's lovely. I really like the way the water makes a
reflection of the trees, but not too well so your background is all
out of focus. I have some recent egret photos but they're pretty
crummy, and the only one I did like it waiting in line at the Pentax
Gallery (wouldn't want to bias you
Then you'll like this one too, from a bit closer.

Working with F4 lenses in good light makes sense to me. I would also
guess that this is camera limited. We know that different models
focus better in low light than others.

Perry,
I've used it to good advantage with the 200/4 lens on shore birds.
In bright light, any f4 lens seens to do well with it.
If I can find the pictures, I'll post some samples.

This was taken with the A*300mm f4.0 and F 1.7x converter. It wasn't the
brightest day, (conditions were somewhere between "cloudy bright" and
overcast, I've found that the 1.7x auto focuses nicely with lenses with
maximum apertures down to f4.0 under most conditions.

Tim,
Thanks for the useful info. I suspect I will use the TC with the AF
lenses I have. I will have to try it with both my Sigma 70-200 F2.8
and APO 300 F4. The Penatx TC has to be better than the Sigma APO
1.4x TC I have.
Overall I have pretty good coverage in the telephoto range considering

I do not watch eBay religiously but when I saw this listing I jumped
at the BIN price. It was a small gamble since there was no
description on the condition, but the price plus shipping was low
enough to take the risk:
