Re: Lt Dan

2017-05-15 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Yes, that was what I usually wore: flight suit, boots and parachute
harness with survival vest. (Plus helmet and oxygen mask, of course)

I was not a pilot, but a Naval Flight Officer, functioning as a Radar
Intercept Officer and a Bombardier/Navigator. I flew i the back seat of
the F-4B and the right set of the A-6A, neither of which had flight
controls in the Navy/Marine versions; just lots of radar and electronics.

Re: Need Help With SD Card Problem

2017-05-15 Thread John

The K-1 has dual card slots. *IF* it was my card and I didn't want to
just replace it, I think I'd put it into slot 2 & set the K-1 to write
to both cards simultaneously.

Shoot photos & download to the computer. Rinse & repeat ... several
times until you're sure the card is reliable. Or until it fails. You'll
still have your photos on the card in slot 1.

Although ... the fact that it worked the next day is probably because
the problem WAS caused by Windoze.

On 5/13/2017 12:46, jtainter wrote:

Last fall I bought a K-1 with a Sandisk 64 gb card. I have just now
gotten around to calibrating my lenses for autofocus. Partway through
this exercise my system (Windows 7) would not recognize the card. It
had recognized the card fine up to that point. I tried going through
a Lexar card reader on a USB port, but Windows kept saying that the
card had an unrecognized file system and offered to format it for
me.

I reformatted the card in the camera, but with the same result.

I then got out an old 2 gb card, formatted it for the K-1, and
Windows 7 read it just fine. So the camera and computer are working
okay.

At this point I thought the 64 gb card was faulty. But it is only
about six months old and has only about 150 images written to it.
(I've been too busy for photography).

Then the next day I put that non-working 64 gb Sandisk in the
computer, and Windows read it fine.

So, one day it works, a few hours later it doesn't work, and the next
day it works again.

Can anyone pinpoint what the problem might be? Specifically, can I
trust this Sandisk card?

Thanks,

Joe

PESO 2017 - Lamborghini - GDG

2017-05-15 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
Something a little different…

I was going through one of my boxes marked "Old loose prints - 1960s to 1980s"
and found all of the photos I made of the Lamborghini 350GT that I owned in
1975. The originals are only small machine prints and not terribly great
quality at that… But I scanned them, did a minor bit of color correction, and
composited them into a nice little display (along with the snap I scanned a few
years ago of me driving the car) that I can frame and hang in my office next to
my 1:43 scale model car collection. :-)

  https://flic.kr/p/ULXHTA

Seeing these photos brings back a ton of memories!

onwards!

Thanks, Bob.

We all had Nicknames -- or "handles" as they were called. We painted
"Black Max" and "Cossack" on our airplane, which was one of the very few to
bear the number 13. In reality, he was "Max Gross" because when he took
his semiannual flight physical, the flight surgeon would ask the corpsman
"What's the max weight allowed for a 6'0" flight crew," and would then
write in that number (ie, the max gross weight.) I was the Mad Russian,

Pentax sighting

2017-05-15 Thread Mark Roberts
A few days ago when I was crossing the Milennium Bridge in London I
saw someone at the end of the bridge shooting with a Pentax DSLR and
the 15mm Limited. Using a tripod, no less. Proper photographer, that.

Re: PESO: Lt Dan

2017-05-15 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Thanks, Alan.

I used that original Spotty for more than a decade. When I broke it, by
dropping it on the cobblestones of Salzberg, I replaced it with a sued
Honeywell Spotmatic, which I used for several additional years. I finally
replaced it with a (used) Super Program, which lasted me until i bought an
MZ-5, which was my last film camera.

I think the Spotty was the most reliable camera I had, at least until my
current K-5 IIs.

Thanks, Paul, Larry, Alan and Jack!!

This would have been one of the first images taken with the Spotty I
purchased in 1966, my first Pentax.

Those are both very fine portraits, Larry! You are becoming quite
accomplished at these!

I think I slightly prefer the second one, because of the context provided
by the mike and the look of concentration on her face.
