GESO: Bilbao

2021-07-05 Thread Stanley Halpin
A follow-up on my PUG submission this month. This is a link to a small gallery
of shots from Bilbao Spain, mostly from the Guggenheim Museum, but a couple
others from the old section of the city.

https://lightroom.adobe.com/shares/fb26a38b31dc4f0683be21f3a82920ee

Back story - we were there for a day in September a couple of years ago. My
main interest was in the Museum, and I expected crowds, so I went online and
reserved two tickets to pick up at the entrance. We got to the museum,
alternating drizzle, light rain, cloudy conditions. Stood in a long line.
Eventually realized that we were in the line of people waiting to buy tickets!
Went to the proper entrance. Oops. I had in fact made reservations for the
Guggenheim for that day, but not in Spain; my reservation was for the
Guggenheim in New York City. They let us in anyway.

Once inside, I was almost overloaded with the interesting visuals, the curves,
the angles, the structural elements… There was art on exhibit, it is billed as
a museum after all, but most of my attention was on the building. I don’t feel
my photos do it justice and I hope to go back some day and try again. I found
it to be an interesting challenge!

It stopped, with more semi-blind clicking. I think (but do not know) that
blowing up one of the faces to fill the window, or 100% (not sure which)
finally made it stop.

On most Mac software command-period or command-shift-period stops a process.
Leave it to Adobe to ignore useful convention.

I think Bill Robb's "Prairie Sentinel" is my overall favorite followed
by Mark Cassino's abstract image.

Re: Help! LR face detection has hijacked my computer!

2021-07-05 Thread Larry Colen
I think there is something in settings to tell it whether to find all of the
faces.

At some point face detection completely broke on my system such that if it
tries to detect faces it crashes lightroom, and if you restart lightroom it
will go back to trying to detect faces and will immediately crash. Breaking
out of that loop was annoyingly difficult.

Re: July PUG is up

2021-07-05 Thread Stanley Halpin
All good! I particularly like Bill’s offering. Bruce’s old warehouse and
Ralf’s free-standing house both convey some of that same interesting sense of
structure isolated from its surrounds…
I was expecting a Milwaukee Art Museum image from Paul Sorenson, did not expect
Mark C. to swim across the lake to that venue. It was worth the trip…

For my suggestion I looked at LR Help for Face Detection, found that it can be
turned on with cmd-F (“Find Similar Faces”) under the Photo menu. I thought it
might work as a toggle.
Maybe try variations, like option-cmd-F

Good luck!

Re: July PUG is up

2021-07-05 Thread ann sanfedele
Mike -- I read this after I posted my plaudits for the whole gallery..
but I think I can answer the "where" - with a guess,
I'm guessing Pennsylvania as the where.  Taken from a train window or at
a rail station.
if not Pennsylvania, then not far from it in another north eastern
state in the USA.

Scenes like this are familiar to me in person and always evoke these
lines of Vachel Lindsey's

"Factory windows are always broken
Something or other is going wrong
Something is rotten, I think,  in Denmark
End of the factory workers song."

Officially my favorite gallery this year!  Love this stuff, and the
variety the subject inspired.

The best thing is that it looks like no one had to struggle to find a
photo of theirs that fit the bill - everyone who participated seemed to
have a favorite that jumped out of their files as being subject matter
that compelled them to shoot... Ok, I'm projecting (no pun) my situation
but I bet it is true for most if not all..especially since there are
photos in the PUG by more than the usual suspects.
