To be honest, Boris, I went back through this thread to look at the individual posts. One in particular is harsh. The rest express different versions of the view that it would have been better not to publish the photo than to modify it. I hardly think this is a overly reactionary position, so I'm a bit puzzled by your reaction. Supposedly, they think it violates modesty to publish pictures of women or women showing their hair, I don't understand which. Obviously, they just shouldn't publish the photo or just black them out to be honest about what they did. I wondered about that too but apparently images released by the White House are in the public domain: “Pursuant to federal law, government-produced materials appearing on this site are not copyright protected. The United States Government may receive and hold copyrights transferred to it by assignment, bequest, or otherwise.” Whether that allows manipulation of the photos in the way Der Tzitung has done, I'm not sure.
