Thanks, Ann. It's interesting that different agencies seem to calculate the same quake as different magnitudes. They're thinking at the moment that it was two quakes with the first triggering a second larger one but it'll be a while before they untangle all of the data. Just getting a good

Last I heard is there have been two fatalities but details are pretty scant. I think Wellington had more damage than we did; the USGS info seems to indicate the quake propagated northwards. You're right about Kaikoura. The coastal highway north of there is very scenic. Good whale-watching
